Cause of Tinnitus
Hit head whilst drunk
Hi guys, my name is Liam I'm 20 and I've had tinnitus for just under a month now, so far all I can find on the internet is that their is no cure and YouTube should be my new best friend, I also suffer from anxiety after a heavy period of using weed, and other hard drugs. Although I have given everything up even down to drinking I still cannot feel like me again with the constant high pitch ringing inside my head. Any advice or just someone to talk to in a similar situation would be amazing

Have you done masking of your T? Masking can reduce your anxiety level when you feel you have some control in exposing to the ringing. Mindfulness meditation and abdominal breathing can also help. You can google or search youtube and get many videos to instruct you what to do. I used to mask all the day to prevent my brain from caving into the sound, sound machine at bed time, ipod on the go, PC speakers loaded with free 'aire freshener' for work & at home. Nowadays, smart phones should have APPs to generate sounds. TT also has an audio player with excellent masking sounds. Try these:

You may want to consider taking supplements such as NAC, Magnesium, Zinc, B12, D3 etc. Also considering cutting back on salt, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, MSG, etc. If you have trouble sleeping due to the anixety, consider using melatonin, Chamomile tea, hops, valerian tablets etc. When you have good sleep, T may be calmer. Take care & God bless.

Hey @Liam Knights

Exercising is another great way to put T in the background and get nicely tired for when going to sleep... I see you do indoor climbing.. I started three years ago and when I developed T it was a great help in shifting my mind and body from T to the climbing... I was also swimming a lot and doing yoga.. I would arrive at the end of the day so tired and that made it much easier to deal with T at night...

So do keep busy and best of luck to you !

Take care of yourself and your ears !

Hey thanks for the reply, I'm actually a climbing instructor down in the south west of England, issue is I climb all day and then can't sleep cause my mind is going through all the problems I've climbed that day, by the time that stops the tinnitus starts, is yoga a good option for winding down?

Hey @Liam Knights

I think Yoga is very good for winding down, and actually I think it goes very well with climbing too, as both are activities which have to be done mindfully and it can help on stretching and flexing muscles for the climbing...
Then again one has to keep the ego down as I hurt myself a couple of times pushing too hard on some postures because I felt "better" at it and then damage my shoulder and ankle.. :) I think it depends what type of yoga too, I was doing ashtanga and it is known to be the hardest type.. Now I discontinued yoga but I would love to start it again in the near future...

I would suggest you if you don't practice it already to meditate, that should definitely slow your mind down.. It takes a bit of time and patience to feel the benefits but eventually they come :)

All the best to you !

I am also 20 and have had T for about a month, however some days I don't have it, and no longer need to sleep with a masking noise. I combat my T by taking a scientific approach to it, for example I got trashed the other night and my T soared, then I went 3 days without any caffeine and noticed I was much calmer and no noise in my ears... I could hear my heart beat and blood flow.

Each person's treatment is different so figure out what helps it feel quieter or louder.
