Cause of Tinnitus
Unsure, under investigation
Third COVID-19 shot gave me tinnitus.

The mechanism my doctor explained was micro clotting which can clog very small blood vessels that supply auditory nerves, resulting in tinnitus.

Supplements such as can assist blood circulation (and thought by some to assist with this type of tinnitus):
  • Nigella sativa (black seed oil)
  • Curcumin (not turmeric, but actual curcumin)
  • Cayenne (in tincture form, taken under the tongue)
  • Cinnamon (ceylon cinnamon, not cassia)
  • Ginkgo (specific for micro-circulation in the brain, so would likely aid tinnitus)
Blood thinners may also work, you'd imagine?

Anyone looked at this or have success?

Hi @John2000 -- You may want to look into DMSO. It's been used in the past as a blood thinner to treat stroke victims by dissolving clots in the brain. It's also been used to quickly and dramatically reduce brain inflammation in those who've suffered serious closed head injuries (and has saved countless lives). I believe it's now been mostly replaced by much more expensive prescription drug blood thinners. Below is a link to a thread I started which describes DMSO in much more detail. -- All the Best...

How do you use it?

There is another thread about blood thinners stating that they (can potentially) make tinnitus worse.

I'm currently on Xarelto 15 mg twice per day (blood clotting due to COVID-19) and my tinnitus is absolutely and undoubtedly through the roof.

I'm going to stop for a while to see if it comes down after stopping Xarelto.

Hey @Ben Winders -- Have you ever thought about trying to eat foods that naturally thin the blood as a substitute for taking a drug thinner? I don't know what they are off hand, but you can often find a list of them with drugs that thin drugs, as they don't want too much thinning to occur from eating certain foods.

Could be a way around what seems to be a tinnitus spiking drug.

Vinpocetine is also good for blood flow, as are all the -racetams like Piracetam, Aniractem etc. Hard to source in the US now but you can order them from Intellimeds if you are in the EU. Depending on what country you are in, it's a grey area.

COVID-19 can cause tinnitus and hearing issues. It's actually a lot more common than we think.

It's a shame that doctors and ear specialists are still denying the fact that the incidence of these problems has gone up since COVID-19 took the world by storm.

I don't know if these are blood thinners or not, but things that help my tinnitus and hyperacusis include green tea, lemon (drinking lemon with honey or adding lemon to water), and fresh fruit and vegetables.

Hey @John2000, did you ever find any supplement that worked for you?

@Ben Winders, did your tinnitus come down after you stopped Xarelto?

I had a micro clot in my eye (same side as my bad ear if that matters) in November and I mentioned this to my ENT recently.

Now he wants me to try a low dose Aspirin (50 mg) course for 3 months because he thinks that the micro clots could also have been happening in my ear. But I am scared the Aspirin would make my tinnitus worse.
