Anyone Have Moderate Hyperacusis? Crockery, Light Switches and Household Sounds Causing Discomfort

Hi.

Does anyone have what could be termed moderate hyperacusis?

By this I mean not the full on ear-pain torturing form?

Forgive my naivety because there are so many degrees of this vile condition.

Mine is mainly discomfort in feedback from frequencies such as the usual crockery, light switches. In fact just sound waves in our small house. TV, music and outdoor sounds, cars etc are fine... so far... without tempting fate.

I have had very severe hyperacusis that was completely cured using white noise generators as part of TRT. Hyperacusis or oversensitivity to sound can be treated. Sometimes it will improve on it's own over time. Since you have just acquired tinnitus with oversensitivity to sound (hypercusis) there is a good chance your symptoms will improve, and you may not necessarily need specialist treatment of kind I've mentioned above or be referred to an Audiologist, that specialises in noise induced tinnitus. You are welcome.

Exposure to loud noise is the most common cause of tinnitus and hyperacusis (oversensitivity to sound) Headphones, earbuds, Airpods, headset are the main culprits. Please keep away from headphones etc and read my post: New to tinnitus what to do. Use low level sound enrichment at night. You'll be fine with time so try not to worry. If you're feeling stressed, which isn't unusual with early onset of tinnitus, have a word with your doctor.

Hi @Andymo I had what you describe for a week or so when i started on webutrin - right before full T developed.

Thankfully I don't have the full H shooting match and sound sensitivity is improving at glacial speed, quite a normal occurence after reading 100s of hours over the past 2 months on this lifeline forum. TTTS has been a big annoyance but this is now ebbing.

My biggest issue is pain in the affected ear which is truly capricious: it comes and goes when it likes and has been stopping me sleeping. 1hr per night sleep last 3 nights.

The biggest oddity is I do NOT get any pain as result of noise. Weird. May investigate trapped neck nerve or spine misalignment as I am a serious road cyclist.

How are you symptoms now?

Only that it is not true that TRT or white noise generators cure hyperacusis... sorry to be realistic.

It sounds like slight noise sensitivity. For doing the dishes: just turn on the radio to mask sound, see if that helps with sound peaks for crockery. For light switches... I don't know what kind of switches you are referring to, but usually these can be pressed without making almost any sound at all.
