So I have extremely high pitched hissing tinnitus, the pitch is high!

How does anyone habituate or cope with it?

I've always thought if it was a lower pitch I could deal somewhat better but mine is very high. Almost always it's so high it hurts my ears.

Hello,

I my hiss is very high pitch too. I'm not sure, but it seems to be around 15000 hz.
I found out that using https://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/ultrasonicNoiseGenerator.php Starry night preset allows me to mask it completely. If I'm feeling very stressed I use this noise generator and turn up the volume just so that I can hear the hissing on the same level. I found out that after listening for 1-2 hours of this I can cope much better, but it's still tough.
I find coping with this high pitch hiss very hard, because the sound is so unnatural. Even if it's relatively loud around me I can still hear it breaking through and it causes a lot of distress.
I have a tone like a Morse code and some trembling and pressure in my left ear and I have habituated to it fully within 1.5 months since this whole thing started, but I can't get used to the hiss even though it's just a bit louder than the tones. I think my hiss is about 60 db. I can hear it in 65 db environments.
Sometimes I feel like the left side of my head is on fire, because of this hiss. I suspect I might have TTTS.

By the way, I've seen your posts when I was researching this forum. Do you think your tinnitus has been caused by ETD? My doctors suspect this, because have negative pressure on my tympanometry. I'm going to another doctor today.
And looking at your profile I see this post "When my ears feel full my tinnitus is not as loud as when my ears feel more open..."
Yes, I feel exactly the same! I have these episodes when my left ear feels somewhat full and throbbing. Like something is physically moving my eardrum and pushing on it. Sometimes it's synced with my pulse. During this episode the hissing diminished greatly to the point it's almost nonexistent.

Do you have extremely high pitch hearing loss? likely yes...

you wait knowing a clinical trial to restore hearing is coming soon to save us

Except I'm profound at those frequencies :/

@CrystalB unfortunately I don't think there's that much to be said for us sufferers. BTW I too have super-high pitch T.
As Contrast says there may possibly be a regenerative treatment for some in the near-ish future. And bimodal stimulation will likely come out sooner and might help as well.
And you can always reach out to TT for support, but of course you know that.
Other than this we don't have much I'm afraid. Meditation seems to help some people.
I guess I'm not the best person to answer re coping. Lol.
Take care now.

I had extremely high pitch hiss in my right ear for 1.5 years before it started to settle, Hopefully it will for you too. I still have bad days, infact I heard it over an airplane just last month. I also have TTTS to certain sounds.

Keep your eyes on Bi-modal as @Manny said, KelpieMSP had some reduction because he's in a trial, his is also around 15khz. not sure where he's at now as the trial is still on going

Problem is that there is little to mask tinnitus at higher pitches. Even my crickets sound tops off at around 5kHz.
It's draining at times but somehow we manage to get through.

@CrystalB

There is no much for high frequencies, and I am not expecting any significant treatment or cure in many many years. At the end is just the noise and you. The only way is to face it until it becomes part of you. As I said in other postings, make it your friend, your soundtrack, your mantra, your lullaby. In my case, I have found helpful yoga, meditation, antidepressants and sleeping pills. There is no treatment, just mitigation to the distorted reality that we have to live in.

I can give you a qualified answer. I have very loud ringing. I have extremely high pitch static noise which can hear above everything. I also have low pitched super loud rasping booming bass noise.

Yes I have the whole lot.

I habituated to the awful ringing and high pitch never ending static.

The low frequency sent me to a breakdown and has me in tears.

So can you really be sure low frequency would be fine?

My tinnitus seems to be louder when they don't feel full and more open, which is so weird, I figured it would totally be opposite to that.

I was in a stressful state about two days before I ended up with tinnitus. I had a bad Ocular Migraine and I panicked severely for about 30 minutes, it seemed like it went away, two days later I woke up with ringing.

I do have allergies, around that time I got tinnitus I also sat in a closed up car for maybe 30 minutes with someone smoking the next morning after that I woke up with this ringing.

I have gone back and forth over what caused my ringing. I even thought maybe my Ocular migraine had triggered wrong signals in my brain, I don't know. I did go to the ENT when this happened about a month after my onset, fastest I could get in and they did a hearing test, perfect hearing but said I had ETD due to negative pressure.

This is what's strange, I had my first Ocular migraine in August, I got tinnitus the next morning, I went to the doc, she told me I had fluid, I took nose spray for a few weeks and stopped noticing my tinnitus. It remained gone until I had another Ocular migraine in November, two days later my ringing returned and hasn't stopped this time. I used the same nose spray thinking it would help like last time. I panicked with both migraines for they are scary and I have anxiety.

I don't know, I just wish I knew what caused my tinnitus this time so maybe I could do something to help it.

This is exactly how it is for me but I get pressure and headache as well. When I get to a quieter place it comes back slowly and reaches an insane peak and then it settles down a bit but still at an extreme loudness.
Thought it would be the opposite indeed. But my T and H is so unpredictable I can´t even begin to understand it.
Any other people have this same thing with T lower when you have ear fullness?

I have extremely high pitch T in my right ear. 100% of the time non stop. It is all I think about...unbearable. Some days it gets so loud I really have a hard time thinking of anything else. I have no answer to share for relief. My left ear can get bad as well at times. It fluctuates. I've had high pitch T in my right ear starting in 2010. It really wasn't too bad. I really never thought of it too often. Wow how things have changed in a year. Early 2017 My high Freq hearing loss became worse and I assume that what has triggered my T to now become so incredible loud and unbearable. I haven't been able to find any relief. Nothing will mask it.

there's no coping, it's called dealing with it and being strong. just be strong. get good sleep too. I've tried all kinds of stuff, good sleep is the best medicine, next to that is curcumin.

I keep myself distracted and try to focus properly on what i'm doing. Thinking of other things and trying not remember (nearly impossible) helps a lot. Having hope, and not being afraid when you hear it clearly makes me get through my day. The real bummer is that the only sound that masks my T are crickets. My bedroom sounds like a swamp at night!

Oh man you gave me a good laugh there! I too feel like I'm sleeping in a jungle.
Only I have heavy rain pounding the roof of my tent too!
I started using rain fall in the beginning, but unfortunately while I was sleeping started to dream that I was in a middle of a storm. A bit ironic living in sunny Spain!

On bad days (about 60 percent of my days) it's loud and probably at 14-15 khZ. I hear it over everything and it can't be masked, so listening to music etc isn't very possible. All I can do is to have other noises aroound and focus on those. One year in, I don't care as much about the sound itself when it's there. It sucks but I try to focus on things even though I think about the sound a lot of the time

I don't know what the frequency is, how many Hz. Would it matter if I did?
I have the impression that high frequency often accompanies high/loud volume though.

I don't know how many tones I have but as I type this - seems like several tones. High pitched, high frequency and loud. My ears "click" from time to time too. I also get ear pain that intensifies but I don't know if it's always happening because of some sound.

I know I have some form of hyperacusis because I still suffer from amplified sounds in my apartment and it's really depressing. It's not normal.

Hi there,

Dont worry it wont hurt your ears. The tinnitus is a brain based internal sound, not an external sound caused by air pressure on the ear drums.

My Tinnitus is a very high frequency, and lately seems to have got higher. Any more and i will take off! lol.

Please try not to fight with it. As the Buddha said the body maybe sick (or have a problem) but the mind doesnt have to. Try to make it into a friend. When I notice mine i say "Hello T old friend". If you weaken the psychological stress associated with the T it should help you.

Either way its not easy. Its all a learning process and takes time. Never give up on yourself, or think you are failing. Im 2.5 years in on my journey and have come from the point of suicide to the point of strength. If I can do it, so can you.

Peace & Love.

Chimp.
