Are the Seats by the Plane Engines Quieter Than the Seats at the Back of the Plane?

I booked a plane (Airbus 319) ticket and paid to choose a seat. The seat closest to the front of the plane that I could find was an isle seat in row 13. I just realized that row 13 is located right by the plane's engine.

Are the seats at the back of the plane going to be quieter? I am having trouble finding any sources online that provide this information... Please help - I have less than 24 hours before I will no longer be able to cancer my reservation...

The more forward you go the quieter it gets. Row 13 should be one of the quieter rows. The only way you'll get it even quieter is if you go business class.

agree with this. flew to miami in the summer. had decibel metre. back of plane was consisently around 94db, middle near wing was 87-90. on way back i luckily got bumped to business class and the noise was much quieter 79db.

I remember reading something along those lines too. But I am a little intimidated by the prospect of sitting right between the two engines. I would be so much closer to the engines compared to if I sit at the last row...

Don't be. Your position is better than being behind the engines.

Thank you for sharing. This is so counter-intuitive! I guess I will stick with my seat in row 13.

I measured around 76 db near engines and 80 db at back of the plane.

Flying is grand lads, I've sat in all sections. Take off will be a little loud but once you're airborne it's grand.

Those are the kind of numbers I have recorded in the past.

In fact, if you fly on a double decker airbus and sit upstairs, you can get it in the 60's.
