Are there any good signs at all? I've had it for a month and since then, it was very loud the first 2 weeks, the ringing was ungodly annoying, but now.. it's more of a hiss or a shhhhh, but eventually turns into a ring after I've been up for a long time.

T is very unique to the individual. Please remember that people who's T goes away or gets bette rarely come on a T forum, so its natural for their to be quiet a lot of doom and gloom on here unfortunately. You need to focus on the fact that T does get better in the vast majority of cases. I have been told by my audiologist who specialises in T that changing T at the beginning is a good sign due to your brains plasticity. Ignore the negativity and remember that most people with T get better over time, but it does take time. Good luck!

Vast majority of those with tinnitus lead normal lives. Many that come to this site...this is their beginning which flips everybody out...or....they have intrusive tinnitus which is much more difficult to live with. Mild tinnitus vastly outnumbers those with loud tinnitus. Of course this stat does little good for those with acute tinnitus and they have my profound empathy. Those with this condition which hopefully one day there will be help for..are the true warriors and triumph of the human spirit.

Mine i'd rate a 2/10.. The people who have it really bad I cannot even imagine.. I hope mine never gets that loud.. I see people write about it all the time, how it was manageable but then it went nuts, I hope my 2/10 doesnt go to a 7/10.. that's what scares me, thats where my anxiety comes from, I've only had this a month, and in that month it has lessened, and changed tones though the annoying part is a super feint noise in my unaffected ear, and the fact that it sometimes reacts to other sounds (which i hope goes away). I don't know if it being in the other ear is a sign it's permanent or not.

You basically figured it out yourself why it isn't a good idea for a "2/10" to be reading about tinnitus online. You will mostly find people who are doing bad and spreading that doom and gloom, because, well, that's how some of our lives are with tinnitus. Sometimes it's hard to be positive when one gets very little or no relief from their truly intrusive tinnitus / other ear issues.

Reading these discussions, you risk exacerbating your anxiety further. They don't give you a balanced view of what tinnitus is outside the internet.

It's difficult to accept the fact that tinnitus is unpredictable, and future outlook is uncertain. But so is life, any of our lives could end tomorrow, so the only thing we can do is live today as if it were our last.

If you take care of your ears, avoid exposure to loud noises and research your medications (ototoxicity in mind), you minimize your chances of tinnitus becoming worse down the line.

That said, your tinnitus is still in the acute phase. Give yourself some time with it. Try not to listen and analyze it all day, every day. Keep busy. If after some time you still feel stuck with it, look into cognitive behavioral therapy.

Best wishes to you.

i know, and I feel bad complaining even though mine isn't as bad, what do you mean by acute phase? I still have hope it may go away givin how much it has gone down, before if I stayed up this long that 2/10 would be a 5/10..

Also I believe you are the one who made this site, and got it from ear irrigation.. which my doctor wants to do, I had ear suction for 3 seconds in my left ear, the unaffected one, and it kind of has an echo in it since, so the ear irrigation actually scares me too. (lots of wax buildup in affected ear) Oh if only there were safe methods.

grotulon,
Make sure you put olive oil drops in your ears 7-10 days before any wax removal techniques are used to soften any crusted wax....lots of love glynis

The Good news is that, your tinnitus is at the beginning stages. Protect your ears and don't make your tinnitus LOUDER. I'd give anything to have beginning level tinnitus and perfect hearing. I have lived my life to the fullest and now I pay the price. It's ok, i handle it quite well and im not bothered.

Protect your ears and avoid LOUD music, it will help you go a long way :)

Be well...

Reading all the doom and gloom has really made my T worse. The success stories are a better read. My T caused me a few break downs this week. I recently have T. A sleep aid did wonders for me.
My T went from a 1/10 to 5/10 after I exposed myself to loud music. I'm avoiding things that might trigger my T. I'm new to this like you. I hope we have the best of luck and beat this.

I'm happy and my life is great. Still have tinnitus and it still bothers me every few days. I've tapered off my anti anxiety drugs and I get outside and drive again. We just got back from a month long tour of Asia and are planning kids! I wasn't the same two years ago. Healing just takes time!

This is good advice...our GPs won't let you have warm water irrigation until you have used Olive Oil for a whole month !

My loudish tinnitus is completely gone after almost three months since an intense single one-second loud sound trauma, which freaked the hell out of me all this time (some of you people have it like someone from Invasion of the Body Snatchers screaming at you constantly). What remains is persistent ear pain, which runs really deep, and is often responsive to sounds, ala hyperacusis I guess. I was on prednisone for a month, which got rid of the constant dull ache... until I weened myself off it. Then the pain came back. I have no idea how long this pain will last, but my ENT appointment on 25th September will hopefully provide some answers on that one. Maybe six months to a year?

That's as good a success story I can offer you folks for the time being!
