I have been taking NAC, Magnesium, Vinpocetine, ALCAR (N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine) for over 6 months now.

Would anyone know whether any of the supplements commonly taken by tinnitus sufferers are unsafe to take long term (e.g., for longer than six months)?

NAC and ALCAR should be cycled i think. Magnesium you can take, although it will be good to run some blood tests. Also a small amount of Omega 3 i nice too. All other supplements should not be taken for very long, unless you ran some tests and know that you are defficient in some(B12, D etc.).

Thank you!

Just to be sure I understand you correctly - what did you mean when you wrote that NAC and ALCAR ought to be cycled? Did you mean that they should not be taken at the same time?

cycling means, that you take something for maybe 4-8 weeks and then lay off the supplements for 4-8 weeks and then start again...

I've taken all of those for over 12 months (except ALCAR) without any problems. Its possibly a good question you raise though, and it probably wouldn't hurt cycling a week off them (you would certainly know if they do anything then too!).

I mean 1(2) month on - 1 off. As far as i know, extended use of isolated amino acids can affect protein/amino acid synthesis in the body. So just to be on the safe side i prefer the 1:1 ratio. That is ofcourse if you are not taking it to treat a particular desiese. In that case, the dosage and period should be as prescibed by the doctor.

That's what i know. But i am not an expert so ....
