Are WNGs Bought Online Supposed to Be Somehow Adjusted by a Professional?

Hi Valeri. I got my WNG for free via the NHS. The volume is adjustable and I was told to set it in the morning so that the white noise just starts to mix in with my tinnitus and then not to change it again during the day. I assumed that all WNGs were the same ie. adjusted by the user.

MemberWell, to me it would sort of depend on why you were purchasing the devices in the first place.
I mean ...
If the purpose was to mask or partially mask your tinnitus, then you would typically set them yourself at the level that gave you the most immediate relief.
If the purpose was to make you a better lover, then no matter how you set them, that purpose would likely not be achieved. (If it would, then I'm buying a pair myself and investing in the company that manufactures them!)
If the purpose were as part of the sound therapy component of TRT, then before you bought them online, you would first want to make sure that the devices were appropriate for your TRT category. And then you would set them as instructed by your TRT clinician.

Is it the sound they play or it's the level of sound that differs depending on TRT category?

All wearable broadband sound generators that are suitable for TRT can be used as maskers, but not all devices that are designed to be maskers are suitable for TRT.
I don't know, no TRT specialist here at all.
Just wanted to get something for some relief when things go pear shape.
But I can see where you're coming from, agree.
Then pretty much any decent pair of maskers you purchase online or from an audiologist should be OK.
I reeeeally need an answer to this question. I only need a wearable sound generator for my T. My audiologist with Kaiser says she will program it for me and conduct the TRT, but Kaiser has some kind of exclusive contract with Starkey and that's 1,800$ (w bluetooth). Their devices only offer white and pink noise, I seem to think that babbling brook, more natural sounds, or notched audio might be better - so I'd be getting it with the bluetooth, unless there's another product that offers the water sound? I want a product that I could switch over to those things if I wanted. All this research is making my T worse!! My T frequency is around 8,000-8,500 with hearing loss at high frequency (starts at 8,000) one hole in my hearing - right ear at about 3,000). All caused from outer hair cell damage. Audiologist said I could use the brook or the white or pink noise as long as it's just below my T level ALL DAY. There are all kinds of people trying to sell me all kinds of things I just want a good suggestion for a low cost noise generator that I can do TRT with - and have those other options. You said zen therapy is no good, so I guess that would eliminate Widex? Thanks for your help
