Back Again — Now What?

I first posted back in April 2011 after getting very high pinched subjective tinnitus and hyperacusis from getting my ears syringed.

I posted a few times during my first month of onset. For the first year, I must have researched for hundreds of hours.

The hyperacusis disappeared at 1.5 years. I had listen to a lot of static tapes. At about 3.5 years, I started to habituate where my mind was not on my tinnitus and my related fears were gone, but I always used noise deduction headphones when needed.

Now at 2.5 years since habituation, I went to the dentist for a front lower dental implant. I guess my neck was bending forward a bit, because now I also have somatic and vascular tinnitus along with hyperacusis again.

This time, the T is so high pitched, it's unbearable.

So, now I'm back looking and starting to look at postings of fellow sufferers and researching again.

I have headaches and neck pain from the somatic T.

Hi Greg,
Sometimes it's down to low jaw pressure having the procedure done and your jaw inflamed.
I always think something should be put under the lower jaw to support it through treatment.
I always support my jaw and the dentist knows my problems with my ears and cracking jaw TMJ.
You might be lucky and your normal base sound returns over the next week or so.
Try stay positive as it's so easy for the unwanted emotions to come flooding back again give you a wobble .

Thanks Glynis. My jaw was inflamed after the procedure, common for a front bottom implant. Yes, support under my jaw during the procedure would had made a difference. The jaw now appears to be mostly back to normal, but I have some cracking noises leading to my ear and I'm yawning a lot. I grind my teeth at night, but I now use a guard. My implant procedure was a month ago. Yesterday I went to my regular dentist and he said I had only a small evidence of TMJ - one on a 0 -5 scale. I also have some sinus problems. I'm 64. Glynis thanks for your caring.

Glynis, I can't find it now, but you had mentioned the name of a medication that you take that I think gave you some tinnitus relief. Would it be OK to ask you the name of the medication and how much it did help? So far I am considering valsalva, maybe hearing aids, but I can hear alright, sinus flush and water. I should focus on my ear aches, entire head and neck pain. I need to get T and H somewhat less in pitch, because I care for sick people and animals in my home.

Hi Greg,
I was put on Nortriptaline and it really helped me.
My head tinnitus went away and took the edge off my high pitch tinnitus and helped the low drone sound also.
I still get hard times and struggle but the Nortriptaline was definitely a help.

Hi, I have head tinnitus? But I read this medications makes tinnitus worse? Had it made it worse for you Glynis?

Severe tinnitus in my ears won't go due to Meniere's but it stopped my head tinnitus.

Hi Greg After all the help you have given did you really think I wouldn't respond? Actually I am on Nortripyline (different spelling than for Glynis above - could it be she is in the UK and I am in Canada?) and it has been great for me. My doctor told me it was not really for the t., but for the anxiety around it. I take one at night before I go to bed and it has worked for me, and ehlped me sleep, along with my sound therapy in the background. Wish I could help more.
