Kind of curious about this lately, my T started at a level 1 and has worsened over time for various reasons and now is at a constant level 8-10. One thing that has been very consistent is the severity of my H in relation to my T levels. When I was at a low T hiss to start, I had a very small amout of H, so small that I thought that I was just imagining it. Every tick upward in T intensity over time and my H follows along like a shadow, my T gets bigger, so does my H.

Opinions?

Im the same....

That's the same with me since my increase last year, T has slowly crept up and is louder now than ever, and my H has steadily increased throughout the whole year as well.

Can't offer anymore than that unfortunately bro as I haven't a clue why either!

@Telis , do you notice that you have more H in a specific frequency?
For example, does a loud car brake screech make you whince more than say
a bus driving near? Another example would be tolerating men's voices better than
kids voices and the same loudness level.....

With me i feel it is my H is spiking my T...as amped noises make t feel like it is being exposed to louder noises when its not..eliminate H u eliminate the problem..

Well for me it is directly related to tinnitus. For instance if I take an opiate my tinnitus spikes and h becomes unbearable. So I don't take them and suffer with pain. They are crap drugs anyways and make me ill.

OR if I drink too much caffeine, my T spikes and then my H spikes.

When my T quiet downs my H is not so bad.

Last two days its been very bad T. I believe due to my tooth being inflammed ( getting it out) and so my H is bad..also to note when my H is bad I get reactive T or a "ring" in my left ear to outside noises..or on top of..ANY noise. .

I am very anxious that I will end up with worsened T and permanently bad H.

I am currently tapering off clonazepam and this could be another reason my T has spiked.

It's alot to worry about and I am sick of worrying about my ears. I would almost say I could be accepting of worsened T if I didn't feel my H was gonna follow suit!

I beleive it can be the drugs u are taking i dont drink caffeine or drugs i just take the pain as it comes...

Please do not take this the wrong way. But if, as you say, eliminating your hyperacusis will eliminate your problem, would you mind telling us what steps you have taken to eliminating your hyperacusis. I mean, tinnitus is tough to treat; I really get that. But way way way before CBT, TAT, PTM, TRT, NTT, and the rest of the alphabet soup of tinnitus - there were a number of very effective desensitization techniques designed to eliminate hyperacusis. So have you been correctly diagnosed? And if so (i.e., if your problem really is hyperacusis), what have you done about it?

its definitely the clonazepam...from my experience withdrawl from that drug worsened my t.

I dont mean eliminating my tinnitus thats with me forever.. Ive had h before but never reacted my T like it does now. But this time around my H is worse. somehow it aggrevates my T when i hear sounds with very sharp pains lasting hours or days.. Sometimes i can get a spike over a spike in a day by spike i mean volume intensifies ... Ive never had this problem even my first time with mild h.. And my first couple of years with T ...my ents are clueless they act like im over reacting like if no one ever had this.. I never made a big deal about my mild t for years or when i had mild h to them and now as its worsensing they act like this is something new.. I might have something else but they seem like they can care less...

I might have something else but they seem like they [ENTs] can care less...
Yea, that happened to me too. A bunch of ENTs who couldn't care less. So I made a point of it to find an ENT who cared more.

The first time around with Mild H wasnt as bad as now but sounds did hurt.. I took time off work.. And just rested my family was gone for 2 months and was just by myself in my house and used that time to recover and not expose my ears.. In time they felt better and started slowly going to the backyard and exposing my ears to natural sounds .. Little by little it went away was gone for 6 months But the severity this time is far worse..im trying keppra i know it isnt a cure but some have found it usefull and if it can help it fade it away even by half its worth a try..

What dosage of keppra are you on? And how long have you been on it? Also, try a trobalt+keppra mixture, they work both together.

Are you saying Keppra doesn't work alone? Were you always on both??

I mean for tinnitus, they work better together. As for hyperacusis it works for it alone. But forget about keppra...Try a white noise generator they can help treat it, not cure it, neither can they treat that horrid static noise but hey, I still recommend a white noise generator...

I totally understand.

Look, Geo, I am very "old school" when it comes to this sort of thing. You know - establish an accurate diagnosis and then initiate a treatment plan based upon that accurate diagnosis. I have never been a fan of the "throw a bunch of mud against the side of the barn and see what sticks" school of medicine. But that's just me - and I'm an old fart.

So you have decided to through some Keppra against the side of your auditory barn. That's your call. And if it sticks ... I couldn't be happier for you! In fact, even if it doesn't stick but you just think it does, that should be fine for you as well. It's called placebo!

And here's the thing about placebo - people tend not to give it its due. If Keppra helps you because of its pharmacological effect or because of its placebo effect, for you as an individual it makes no difference at all. Because all you are interested in is that you are helped.

The concern with placebo lies when a product is being represented as having pharmacological activity when what is really happening is all placebo. I think that's what is happening here with Keppra. And for that matter with Trobalt and LLLT as well. But if any given individual notices appreciable improvement, whether or not that improvement is due to placebo effect is to that individual completely irrelevant.

yea so you didn't actually answer my question Danny :) which really is important to know as I don't plan on touching trobalt.

@dan neither did you...so slow taper or???

Danny you seem to take people not jumping on the keppra bandwagon immediately very personally and frankly speaking you had H for 3 mths..most people have H leave after 6 to 9 anyways. .so really I think you need to relax with your Keppra advocacy and especially if you were on trobalt at the same time! Cause when my T is low so is my H and if Trobalt lowered your T then maybe it got rid of your H.

Wth does white noise gens have anything to with my question?

Lynn if your T is low and so is H..why are u interested in trobalt and keppra that should be for more far sufferers.. i didnt even think of drugs when my symptoms were mild.

Actually it's Danny who keeps suggesting it..and Geo my T and H flucuate along with my tmj or nerve flares...I've been here for a year and half, have a look at my threads if you like. I've through hell and back and keep going..but frankly it just doesn't affect me emotionally like it used too. Suffer or don't but I plan on living in between and sometimes even during.

Anyways Geo since you are trying these drugs and I may try Keppra if my Neuro feels it would benefit my other issues as well, I think it be good to know if Keppra only works with Trobalt or not. That was my question and you yourself should be wondering as well..

well i am trying keppra because i cant even walk out my house without noises affecting me and reacting my T because of H, so im in need. and ive talked to others and they have found improvements in their t when they dose up on keppra , and have reported no side effects.. i just need relieve of this torment. T is screaming but if i can atleast take care one of the beasts than thatll be good for me. and im only trying keppra, ive never taken any other drugs..
