Barotrauma...

Hey guys, just wondering if I could get your opinion again maybe.....

My T is really spiking higher than its ever been right now in my full ear. It wasn't too this bad yesterday or earlier today that I remember, but this is almost definitely the loudest my T has ever been, and my T is typically pretty stable. My normal T is uneffected by food, caffeine, alcohol, etc.....Is it because of the antibiotics? Or is it possible that further damage may have occurred? I'm hoping that this spike is from the antibiotics, but that also concerns me because I don't want the spike to continue getting worse with more antibiotics, I'm starting a new semester in college this week and focusing on the TV is difficult enough with this spike....

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hey @SteveSkis92, sorry you are spiking. Can't really say what is causing your increased volume perception. But if I had a guess; I would say it's your anxiety. You (understandably) are hyper worried about this situation. You probably also are monitoring your tinnitus far more than usual. Is it louder? Is it higher? This all is a recipe for your tinnitus being more disruptive.

You just started taking the antibiotics, so I really doubt it is that. Please don't stop taking them! You are far more at risk of the fluid in your ear causing problems than the meds. And your ears still are healing. Don't worry if there is damage (which there likely is not) just try to get better. Did you call your doctor? You need to give your medications at least a week to work. Plus you said you already felt improvements. Good news! I know it's hard but please try to relax, distract yourself. I bet your volume will go down.

@SteveSkis92, I agree with @LadyDi that the antibiotic is probably not hurting anything, but unsure about the fluid causing damage to your inner ear. I wanted my eardrum lanced back in 2008 to drain the fluid. You could ask your Dr. about that risk/reward situation. You could also call Silverstein or Paparella on their opinion of your fluid. I wish I would have back in 2008, but I knew of neither one then. Foresight is always better than hindsight.
