Bee Sting Eventually Stopped My Tinnitus

I don't recommend doing stupid stuff. That said I have had tinnitus since 2009.

I was stung by a bee about half an inch in front of the middle ear on the right side.

It took over 2 weeks for the swelling to go down. I noticed the hearing in my right ear was quieter. I figured it's the swelling so wait it out.

Then I realized that the ringing has stopped in my right ear. It's been 2 months and no ringing. 7/24/2017.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS. The last time I was stung by a bee 7 years ago it took a week for swelling to go down. Will update if conditions change.

Maybe your immune system fighting the toxins has somehow repaired something within the ear?

Nice! I just wish there was a system in place to figure out why it worked out. There should be enough people who spontaneously recover that it should reasonable to figure out exactly how tinnitus works and how people recover.

Unfortunately I think bees die once they have stung.... that is if it is a honey bee.
We might be out of luck trying to track that bee down.

There are bee sting facial products - which gather bee venom without killing the bee. I believe they work by stimulating the skin to create collagen - a possible mechanism of action?

The below is from a quick search, without going into any details:

These neurons, whose organized connections in the cochlea and the brain represent sound frequencies, are essential for preserving normal hearing, but are vulnerable to acoustic insult, toxicity and aging1,2,3,4,5,6. When SGN are damaged or die, hearing impairment or deafness results. Synapses between peripheral nerve fibers of the SGN and the hair cell receptors in the cochlea are the first to degenerate, followed by the retraction of the fiber over various time periods and finally neuronal cell death2,3. After neurite retraction, spontaneous regrowth of peripheral fibers back to the hair cell region of the cochlea is limited. However, the connections to the brain stem retain a generally organized frequency representation even when the peripheral fibers have retracted. Regeneration of the peripheral neurites is a goal in hearing science, but the biochemical pathways that prevent spontaneous neurite regeneration from SGN are largely unknown.

So.... Maybe you have just found the "unknown" way of neurite regeneration - although it may be a little fast for that to take effect

There is a chance that the collagen has done something for your hearing - or of course it could be a complete coincidence. You say that tinnitus runs in the family, is it through an associated hearing loss or hearing issues or do you not know?

Thanks for the comments. I don't know if this will last or not. It is definitely different only hearing ringing in the left ear. My mom had T about my age my sister was 2007 3 years younger. My sister said hers started after firing a gun. The bee was a wasp that had a bullet nose hive thin in thickness. I have never seen another one shaped like that. My reaction to bee stings are getting worse it seems. My eyes are getting bad and couldn't say what type of bee it was. That sucker hurt .

I doubt this would work for me, but I think there is actually a reasonable chance that it will work on the author's other ear, if there is a chance that this is what helped one of the ears...

For something like this it will only work for a set of people if it does have a mechanism. The only way you'll ever be able to find a cure that works almost universally (in my opinion) is by targeting the mechanisms in the brain that are involved in creating the phantom noise.

Sorry to say the ringing started off softly this morning 7/27/17. Now back to the same ringing as before . I could not find any other articles about bee stings and hearing. For me being stung with the pain and swelling it's not worth it for short term of no ringing . At first onset of T I would have tried anything to get rid of this _ _ _ ringing. I had a doctor's appointment on Monday for other issues. He looked and said no swelling everything looked good . Praying for a cure to stop that _ _ _ ringing

Have you been to your doctor or ENT since this happened? To see if they would have any idea why this would have helped stop the ringing? Hoping that if any news about any possible cure for this Tinnitus would be great! I just haven't heard of any cure. So any chance of a cure to this damn noise would be...... well I cant put it into words what it would mean. Anyways, congrats on beating half the battle. Funny. There are places that you can get an injection on the bee venom.

Agreed to some extent, however, a localized cause/mechanism excludes finding a universal neurological cure. Unfortunately, the mechanism is this patient population is likely many fold.
