Cause of Tinnitus
Still unknown... possibly noise exposure?
Glutamate is one of the most important neurotransmitters in the central nervous system that is present in more than 90% of all brain synapses. Agents that modulate glutamate neurotransmission may have therapeutic potential in multiple disease states involving glutamate dysfunction, including SCA, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer's disease, Rett syndrome, dementia, dystonia, tinnitus, anxiety disorders, and affective disorders like major depressive disorder.

I think we are on tinnitus forum and not hereditary ataxias forum

BHV-4157 is a new chemical entity (NCE) that modulates glutamate, the most abundant excitatory neurotransmitter in the human body. Agents that modulate glutamate neurotransmission may have therapeutic potential in multiple disease states involving glutamate dysfunction, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ("ALS"), SCA, Alzheimer's disease, Rett syndrome, dementia, dystonia, tinnitus, anxiety disorders, affective disorders like major depressive disorder and cancers.

The drug is a glutamate modulator. Namenda (mematine), Gabapentin, cannabinoids, and Acamprosate are other glutamate modulators that we have discussed on tinnitustalk.

It could help with tinnitus. Could help......

Regeneration of inner ear hair cells also could help tinnitus, but we have no guarantees at all.
