Biting = SCREAMING Tinnitus

Biting down hard on food using my whole mouth, I hear a HORRIBLY loud ring in my left ear.

Biting down using the RIGHT side of my mouth ONLY, I hear NO RINGING AT ALL. 0%.

Biting down using the LEFT side of my mouth ONLY, which has a lot of wear on the teeth compared to the right, I hear a HORRIBLY loud ring in my LEFT ear. 300% normal tinnitus volume.

Could it be TMJD? I've never been evaluated.

Put your fingers on your condyles (or your TMJ joint). Do you feel it pop out to one side when you open wide?
It's worth it getting evaluated.

FWIW, I have some painless TMJ. My jaw dislocates some when I open wide because one condyle is longer than the other, but I don't think it had anything to do with my tinnitus.

I don't feel anything super obvious, but one condyle, usually the left, always "pops out" a few milliseconds before the other. I should also mention that my jaw muscles are very strong.

Hmm, something you would have to have a have a specialist look at. Mine is pretty obvious every time I open my jaw.
You could have a maxillofacial surgeon take a look at it.

when i bite something hard or big like a bagel,

I read that many people get spikes of T when they chew or move their head, but I *only* get it on one side despite having T in both ears. Others often report that the T spikes are very loud in both ears.

I can bite down as hard as I want using the right half of my mouth without spiking T, putting so much force on my jaw that the teeth nearly crack. No increase in T.

But the tiniest amount of pressure on the left-sided teeth in my mouth causes the tone in my left ear to get 300-400% louder. It stops immediately upon releasing the bite. I'll see a surgeon.

I know plenty of people without tinnitus who can evoke a loud ringing by biting down hard or jutting their jaw forward. I don't think it's necessarily a sign of anything wrong; the auditory nerve goes right through the TM junction.

I would see your dentist to rule out TMJ or inflammation or jaw inlinement and if your bite is ok.
I had really bad TMJ for years since a teenager and had a mouth guard.
I have recently had some dental work done and my TMJ has gone......lots of love glynis
