Botox Injections Into Stapedius or Tensor Tympani Muscle? Where to Find an ENT Who Performs It?

I have read about botox injections into stapedius or tensor tympani on the internet, but so far I can't find any ENT or other doctor that performs this.

I have sent numerous emails to ENT's in Belgium, Holland, and Germany without any luck.

If anyone knows of an ENT or other medical specialist that performs this pls let me know.

Do you have any experience with this yourself then also pls let me know!

Its the tiniest muscle to the stapes about a millimetre in size and quite a prosice procedure and would be done by a Middle ear specialist .
Steroid injections through the ear drum might be more helpful and more easily done or offered ....lots of love glynis

I tried some botox injections around my left ear and neck areas. It seemed to help 1-2 days, but may have been placebo effect. I would like to try a botox injection directly in my left TMJ....looking into that.

I have been under a maxilliofacial specialist 34years off and on due to jaw problems and had day and night splints in my mouth but now due to be seen again 11 December and my dentist says my next step would be Boutox in my tempromandibular joints or surgery or more splints so will let you know what happens after been seen again...lots of love glynis

Thanks and good luck! I will keep you updated as well. I'm not sure what a splint is ? I have a elastic mandibular advancer like this, but don't always use it. It is also for sleep apnea.

Its been done in China. Shanghai I think. I've brought it up in other posts here. They went in through an already perforated eardrum, and used a micro-compress to apply the Botox because the Stapedius is too small to inject into. They claimed success as far as Botox is known to work (three months of relief). I would see it as a great diagnostic tool if you were considering having the muscles severed. It'
ll start happening in the West when Docs work out how to enrich themselves by doing it.

Ok well today i had an answer from an emeritus professor
From england that said it can't be done with botox.
I also send about 30 emails to ent's in germany with al negative answers.
So i guess the treatment with botox is only done in china.

Part of the arrogance of Medicine is the assumption that it can't be done because he hasn't seen it done. Its been done, and the TT muscle can actually be injected because its size makes it possible..

I have musclespasms in my ear that sound like thumping, so the ent said it was myoclonus of the tensor tympani,
So after reading a lot of the same symptoms on the net i guess thats the only label you can put on it.

Its starting to sound like a straight-forward clinical diagnosis with so many people describing the same thing. So why is it so hard to find Clinics that specialize in this procedure?

Well to me they said that only one in 100.000 have these spasms so not very.common

One in 100.000 of whole population is more than 70.000 people...so not the small chance. I suppose that t. is one of the main symptoms in that condition...
Did they told u, can they diagnose more precise if it is musclespasms of the tensor tympani at their clinic?
What is cause of spasam, as i see it is more logic that spasam is bilateral..or not...

One in 100,000 is the number their research gives them, but that's based on reported symptoms by people who have been in a position to actually report them and be heard. Given the number of us here who have been patted on the head medically and sent on our way, I wonder how many more of us would have reported just such symptoms were anyone interested in actually collecting the information instead of sending us away to "learn to live with it"?

I think the only real way to diagnose spasm is to see it. Failing that, a less invasive method of testing that could detect hyperactive muscle activity through some kind of vibration or electrical discharge would seem possible. Even if you couldn't say for certain which muscles in there were the ones spasming, the very presence of spasm identified non-invasively would be a great diagnostic starting point. I've seen literature that suggests that the TT and the Stapedius present their symptoms somewhat differently when in spasm.
