Hello Dr. Nagler,
On November 21st is when I first noticed a feeling like a stone was in my left ear. This went away for the most part the following day. But on the 24th it returned, so I went to the ER.
The doctor looked at my left eardrum and said it was bulged. He then tapped around my head asking if I feel pain. When he tapped on my head around my ears I felt minor pain, then he tapped a little more and looked one more time at my ear drum. Shortly after, my left ear drum was so uncomfortable, it felt like it was going to burst, whatever the doctor did made it bulge more. Anyways he said it was an ear infection despite seeing no fluid behind the eardrum and didn't mention eardrum being red or anything, said it's probably an early ear infection. The uncomfortable bulging lasted for about 20 hours after the doctor triggered it. Throughout the week I still get that bulging feeling, even today 1 week later, but it's manageable.
I'm worried because I have never had an ear infection in my life. I suffered acoustic shock this spring... Worried this is something else. So far 2 doctors have said it's bulged a little so it must be an ear infection. I worried my ossicles are damaged. I have experienced the bulging come and go this past week. It builds slowly and can last for a while sometimes and then it feels like it relaxes. Not sure what can cause this.
He prescribed Augmentin 1000mg every 12 hours for 10 days. Is this safe? Worried about ototoxicity. Should I stop early? I hear distorted noises from some sources (fans, dryer etc) and I feel like it is making it worse...
Could inflammation cause the eardrum to bulge? Would steroids help?
A wisdom tooth came out more in recent months. Can that cause this?
Also, is it possible for an ear infection to cause bulging of the eardrum without fluid being behind the eardrum or any redness on the eardrum?
I'm about to complete day 6 of the prescription and I still get the bulging feeling in my eardrum. Although it feels a little less often.
I'm sorry for such a bloated post, but I am having trouble finding help online and at doctors...
Thank you for your time!!!
