Cause of Tinnitus
Noise Induced
So while dealing with eye strain recently my right ear once again started to deteriorate and ruin any ability to adapt to my T.

Early last week I started noticing an occasional high pitch click in my right ear a few times a day, days later I wen't to bed and noticed constant clicking in my right ear, which I've had before but it;s been a long time. This brought about some ear soreness for days after. Then, as I was semi-recovering a few days later, I got home from market and suddenly my ear wen't almost deaf...or extremely full. Followed by a very high pitch sound...fleeting tinnitus, right?

The tinnitus was loud for 10min or so, and fullness continued for many hours. Even after the fleeting T wen't down, it still lingered like an electrical current shorting out. Anytime I rubbed my opposite good ear, it would spike that specific tone for a split second in my bad ear. Very odd. It's higher than my base T even at a reduced level and driving me nuts. The next day the fullness and feeling was gone yet the leftover T is still here..and I'm at a week! It also made my ear sore and has been semi-sore for the last week as well.

I've had almost identical symptoms before but it never lasted this long. Am I pretty much screwed here, is there anything I can do? I didn't even subject myself to noise trauma and I'm having this crap...I can't even understand it. Can remnants of the fleeting T perhaps cause your ear and muscles to tenses up and create havoc that can cause it to leave left over symptoms like this even a week into recovery?

Wow, this exact same thing happened to me a week ago. I really freaked out, but didnt post anything about it because I didnt think this could happen to someone else... and besides I didnt know how to describe it.
In my case, the rubbing against the opposite good ear, resulted in an instantaneous ringing on the bad ear during the same duration as the rubbing. Any noise would throw me off, the water running was awful. I also had that feeling of fullness... although its not the usual blocked feeling, I dont know how to describe it. It was certainly the scariest thing I experienced on my ears.

I dont know if this is related, but I also had some issues with my eyes very recently.

Im shocked at the coincidence cause I hadnt come in here for a long time and the first post I read is this.

Was those symptoms a result of fleeting tinnitus? Basically you got a fullness or almost deafness feeling followed by high pitch T which typically goes away (except for me this time lol). Mine left a ringing less than at peak but still apparent and louder than my original T, still here after a week.

Did yours resolve?

Yes, I went to bed and all of a sudden the fullness (or whatever) and the high pitch noise appeared, very loud and very disturbing. I dont know how you coped at the moment, but I was terrified, it was nothing like other things I experienced.
The ringing calmed down eventually, although it did not come back at its original loudness, I think. I have multiple tones so Im not sure. However I still am kind of sensitive on both ears... I dont know what to make out of all of this.

How long ago was this? Was it both ears and not one? Usually from what I see, fleeting T is in one ear typically and doesn't hit both at the same time, but perhaps it can.

It happened last Sunday, almost a week ago. So it was like this:
- Got to my apartment, got fleeting T for 2/3 minutes on my bad ear (left) and went away.
- Spent one hour before going to bed, still unease about the feeling the fleeting T had left me with. Took my medicine during that hour (clonazepam and betahisitne, with a cup of chamomile tea).
- Went to bed and as soon as I hit the pillow, all of this happened.

It happened on my worse ear only, but the sound was so strong that it kind of occupied all my head... plus the rubbing/electricity thing... damn...Im not sure about the sequence of events after, I kind of panicked...

I had gone out to dinner to a friend's house, so no noise exposure or whatever. I dont know why this kind of things happen to us. Its the second time I experience something like this, although the other time (last May) it was mostly the feeling of being deaf/blocked ear and tinnitus spiking at every move I'd do with my head, it was uncanny. I remained perfectly still for that night and the following day. Eventually got better until this last episode happened. I dont know, looks like some sort of attack? Neurons? Im so fucking fed up with this BS, didnt even discuss this with my doctor, whats the point?

I feel you. I had T for 8 years and that was it..just T, mild...fine. After hurting my ears again from like 10 seconds of a wood saw, worse T, moderate H and worse fleeting T and other random clicking sounds that make my ear sore. Doctors probably can't see anything and won't know what to say about these fleeting T things, I agree it's BS.

Most here get fleeting T and all after symptoms are gone 24-48h. So, I don't know what this means if it lasts a week +. Absolutely sets me back because even the reduced fleeting T sound is worse than my normal T which is already loud...all from what...no noise trauma just like you...ridiculous.

Oh I forgot... maybe its worth mentioning that I felt asleep and woke up 4 hours later. My tinnitus was at is lowest since 2013 (when I had my big spike). I remained still and silent trying to not make it come back. Of course it did... so I continued sleeping. At that point I still had the electricity thing. Then after 3 more hours of sleep, that was almost gone but not the increased tinnitus and the blocked feelings plus weird sensations all around my ear.

Yeah man, whats the deal with this? I also had tinnitus from 2008-2013, totally manageable I lived my life just fine. Then it all started going downhill fast. I suspect I have a rare condition called SSCD, I need to get tested but there arent many good doctors in my country for something so specific. Even then, people with this condition have tinnitus but not acting up like this.

I could tell you to wait up, be patient and that it will resolve... but you know this is very subjective. I cant never be patient with this...
Sigh...hope you recover my friend, and that we dont have to experience this ever again. We can only hope.

Fleeting tinnitus with a sense of fullness and or pain in the ear is often associated with eustachian tube issues.

My right ear doesn't usually have tinnitus but sometimes it jumps on real loud and fades out over a few minutes. I usually have a sense of pressure at the same time.

Try sudafed with no antihistamines mixed in. Also I sometimes use a natural eucalyptus nasal spray, dab menthol on my nose and breath steam in for a while with a towel over my head.

That will usually release gunk from your eustachian tubes you never even knew was there.

Appreciate the reply, I'll give the eucalyptus perhaps a drop on hot water with towel and try to find some sudafed with no antihistamines. Do you know a specific sudafed version that would be ok to not conflict with T?

Yeah, for some reason the fleeting T has actually ruined my right ear somehow. I'm already about week and half into it and I still have this left over tone not relevant to my actual noise induced T. Oddly, before this fleeting t episode on steroids happened, days earlier I experienced clicking which I assume is muscles deep inside constricting which also gave me a slight soreness for quite some time.

I'm concerned this Fleeting T episode has now gave me perm. new T because although the original tone from the episode wen't down, it never fully faded. I don't understand how this crap happens when I'm being so careful with loud noises and I still get screwed over. For all I know, as you say, a ETD issues of some sort, could of damaged my ear and given this to me permanent perhaps?

I experience clicking when swallowing or yawning or whatever movement I do with my jaw for as long as I can remember. Is this not normal? Ive seen dozens of doctors, however not one of them ever checked for ETD. Maybe I too should look this up, although what happened to us does seem to be more in the brain.... but what do I know?

Mine is more relating to the inner muscles constricting causing the sound and soreness. Think it's related to something called Tonic Tensor Tympani Syndrome. I also have a click or something when swallowing, but I don't believe it's abnormal as it's just the sound of the tubes opening and closing.

Well, I'm definitely panic and scared, I can't handle this if it's permanent. Has no one else had this issue or has any insight?

I'm going to document some things for myself as well here.

I took two days worth of taurine, 500mg from NOW. On 2nd night and last night, i noticed T was more static sounding compared to a bit more mid/higher freq. On third night with no Taurine anymore, the static was very high and bothersome. The next day or two it seemed to have settled somewhat, but I started having this occasional high pitch click that would hit one or two times and stop. A day after or so, I started having clicking (I've had this occasionally before within last year) as if you took two nails on same hand and went back and forward between them to make a click. This is some Tensor Tympani Syndrome I believe. It wen't on for hours at night and made my ear sore after it stopped, probably from over constriction back and forth. A few days later I came home from store at evening time, and suddenly and out of nowhere got a deafening feeling...very full. Felt like Fleeting T episode but much worse. It continued to get worse and worse and lasted for an hour or two, I finally got the high pitch loud ringing during this time, but can't recall when, but it was during the fullness. It was extremely high pitch like I've had before. It lasted for 20min perhaps. Instead of fully going away it stayed at a lower level which has disrupted my right ears sound. Almost as if an electrical high pitch is misfiring, going up and down to a base, and shooting up again for a split second, over and over. For days it left this sensation where if I rubbed my opposite ear I could hear the leftover T from fleeting episode elevate for a split second. This lasted for 3-4 days and I can't tell if it's still there or now just my reactive part kicking in. Probably the latter. The Ear soreness was followed by this event as well, and each day it's remained. Some days feeling a tad better, some seemly as bad as the first day after the episode. I'm at 2 weeks on Sat. and I'm absolutely petrified as this has stopped me in my tracks. No noise damage...how is this possible.

This is again an issue with my right ear, which I don't know why. I had an issue with this ear before with a bad case of fleeting T that lasted a day or two, but never like this. Never full/deafness feeling building up for like an hour, followed by the ringing halfway into it. Usually it's normal your ear gets full and you get the ringing, it goes away in 30 seconds to few minutes. I also had an issue with this right ear nobody ever explained to me, before my original T got worse months after...I awoke to a pop sound combined with a booming type base sound in my right ear. It was not with my heart rate just in it's own sync. This combined with ear pain lasted two weeks or so, and I've had this vroom, vroom, vroom type sound ever since occasionally without warning...which was absent for a month or two and has recently resurfaced around this fleeting T crap as well.

Something is really wrong I think. I don't have insurance and I'm sure they will look in and see nothing wrong as per usual.
