I keep reading about people who wake up with sudden spike, and sometimes it actually stays at higher level. They can find no specific reason for it. So I was thinking - is silence really deafening? Can it trick your mind at night?

I don't know if I can call it a spike but when I wake up in the morning, it's loud and the only way to get it under control is to get in the shower and get busy and then it seems to settle down. I do make an effort during the day to avoid silence because I really hear it when it's too quite.

My T does not typically increase when I wake up, but I do sometimes have the clogged ear symptom that tends to resolve itself within an hour. However, occasionally the loudness of my T would wake me up at night, and I kind of feel like I went deaf and all there is is my T. Then I realize is that my room is completely silent.

I am very skeptical when looking for spike causes. Many tinnitus sufferers are intensively looking for causes of deterioration or improvement. It is very easy to come up with a superstition in which random coincidences are considered a causality.

I'm not calling my awareness of my tinnitus in the morning a spike, it's just that the house is quiet and it's the old candle in a dark room comparison. The tinnitus isn't louder but there's nothing to compete with it. Once I get moving it starts to blend with the sounds of my daily routine.

@Dmitry any updates.

No real updates. It does happen to me sporadically but I cannot find a pattern.

i dont think so, i think only loud noise. my spikes were usually caused by

1) Going to the mall
2) Going to the supermarket
3) Door closing loudly next to my ear
5) Walking next to a busy street filled with cars
6) Hair dryer
7) Eletric shaver
8) Walking next to a car (Muffler), car was starting up.

THe spikes have gotten nastier and longer.
