Hey all,

I've been thinking about this for a couple days and I'm interested in your input on this.

If one smokes, will the smoke reach the cochlea trough the eustachian tube?

Would smoking in the "acute stage" have any impact on possible recovery of tinnitus? (Meaning that if you smoke i the first weeks you might lower chances of recovery?) Just a question

I've stopped smoking now for about 4 weeks :D but i smoked for about three after getting t.

Have a good day :)

Given the overwhelmingly negative impact of smoking on the body, I'm not sure that focusing on the path to the cochlea is of outmost importance. Strictly speaking, the middle ear is connected to areas of the body exposed to smoking activities (and through the middle ear, the cochlea).

As to what impact it can have, I'm not sure, but I doubt it's going to be qualified as helpful.

Good luck!

Why do I keep thinking I ruined my chances of recovery by smoking in the acute stage? Is this even a relevant thought?

Smoking irritates the mucosal lining in the middle ear and upper third of the Eustachian tube so whether or not it can diffuse through the oval and round windows is anyone's guess.

From an ear perspective, you are more likely to suffer with middle ear infections/Eustachian tube dysfunction if you smoke.

And where children are exposed to passive smoke, the incidence of glue ear/otitis media goes up dramatically

Smoking can pass through eustachian tube if the tube opens.

The benefits from quitting smoking in tinnitus can be seen after 2 months.

You keep thinking about it because of anxiety, but you will never know the answer to the question, and because of that, I find it a bit irrelevant.

Hi,

I know it's a bit late, but I have had tinnitus for 4 months and I'm still smoking because of anxiety.

Is this correct about stopping smoking helping tinnitus?

Thank you for your help.
