I am a new tinnitus sufferer. Can anyone give me some tips on how to get better sleep at night? Does laying a certain way matter or should I just try it out and see? I have been sleeping completely on my back and not laying on my ears

benadryl has been helping me a bit lately. my sleep is still sub par though.

read some threads about detoxing from benzos before you get xanax from a doctor.

In the first 2 weeks I had Tinnitus, Xanax helped me a lot, but it's addictive and you build up a tolerance pretty quick (2 weeks), so you have to add more to get the same effect. I've only taken it for 1.5 months, but I'm in the process of getting off of it ... down to 2 x 0.25 mg (which is light) a day. I think it's probably ok to take once in a while, but certainly not daily, like my doctor had me doing. And by the way, it's hard to get off of if you get addictive. Just look up Xanax withdrawal symptoms.

In addition to that, I find Magnesium Citrate (800 mg) and Melatonin (1.5 mg) help me a lot!

Also, since my Tinnitus is reactive to sound, and I use a C-pap, I use ear plugs at night ... otherwise I can't sleep because my ears will ring all night.

Finally, I know a lot of people are taking B complex, but when I took a product called B-50, it raised my "energy level" so much I was jittery and felt anxious ... so if you take that, I wouldn't suggest taking it at night! :)

When I first got T I had a real tough time sleeping and my MD prescribed Ambien for sleep and a low dosage of xanax during the day. I would take 1/2 of an ambien when going to bed and if I woke up generally to go to the restroom I would take the other half and it worked out great for me. I also play nature sounds on my chromebook from youtube all night to help mask the sound of the T. After a few monthes I started to fall a sleep watching TV and decided I didnt need the ambien anymore. It didnt seem to matter my head position when I slept for I change positions when sleeping anyway. Some folks have good results with melatonin which I recommend the time release style and some take benedril. Neither of them worked well for me for I was a wreck the first couple of monthes. But everyone is different and would try them first. Now I am 7 monthes in and have weened off some of the xanax with no problems at all. You will get through this with time and it will get less difficult.
