Can Tinnitus Cause Dizziness? I'm Having Bad Dizziness 1 Year After Tinnitus Onset

Has anyone experienced random episodes of dizziness after getting tinnitus? My tinnitus is due to trauma and I never had dizziness before.

I am 33 weeks pregnant. I am not sure if dizziness is related to pregnancy. I am not anemic and I don't have low BP, sugar levels are fine.

In August I had a very bad dizziness spell when I was doing a yoga pose. I immediately puked after the dizziness then it went away after 2-3 days. Same repeated after a month and now it's the same.

My tinnitus is really loud since the dizziness started 3 days ago. Happens a lot when I switch sides and tinnitus is loud.

Can the tinnitus cause vertigo? I am really worried if this is permanent. The spinning is crazy, can't even have my eyes open. Only happens in bed when I move my neck.

I am not sure if dizziness is related to pregnancy.

I think it's more likely for the tinnitus to be caused by your pregnancy than tinnitus causing it. Are you still dizzy today?

I had tinnitus even before pregnancy. It's been a year with tinnitus. My dizziness is low or almost gone after 4 days. But it's recurring and this is the 3rd episode of vertigo in 3 months. Not sure what's causing dizziness.

I am in a really similar situation as you are. I'm 33 weeks pregnant and felt quite dizzy a few weeks back, although did not have a vertigo episode as did you. I immediately went to a new ENT, consulted with my gynecologist who said it was because I started taking Magnesium. Did you take any back then? I doubted that so I also went to an osteopathy guy who fixed my back. Haven't felt dizzy since then, I'm fairly sure the dizziness came from the big belly causing my stand differently and therefore changing the shape of my spine. Did your dizziness go away after giving birth?

Btw, would you mind sharing what impact giving birth had on your tinnitus?

I just solved dizziness I've been having for the last month only when I was around dust or certain plants. I went to an ENT and Allergist. Passed all tests. So started digging deep into the Google and came a across Histamine Intolerance. I just so happened to start eating histamine rich foods. Fermented foods like Tempeh and Soy Sauce. And spinach and avocados. I cut those foods out and the dizziness went away after a week.

Sometimes, you can get vertigo if the ear crystals are out of position. You could confirm or rule that out by visiting a physiotherapy clinic where they are familiar with vertigo and the Epley maneuver.

If it's not that, it could be an allergic reaction but I don't know enough about that (plausible?) cause.

Zero. Giving birth is crazy busy and tinnitus is the least of your concern. It is the same after I gave birth as well. I wanted a normal delivery but had to go through c-section due to her heart rate dropping.

I'm new here. I have had balance problems starting 2 months after tinnitus. It looks more like PPPD or disembarkment syndrome than vertigo. ENTs have not helped much so far, I had a number of tests. I'll see a balance specialist next week. The main theory at the moment is that a virus has attacked the inner ear but I am also slowly tapering a medication (pregabalin) that has balance side effects. I'm very confused and worried, tinnitus and balance together are dragging me down. One possible cause for both tinnitus and vertigo is high level of cochlear hydrops in the inner ear. I tried oral steroids, vasodilators and antiviral medication but in vain. Not sure what to do next, I hope the balance specialist will help

Hey Anusha, congratulations on the birth of your baby girl. How are you doing these days?

I had a friend contact me today, she's got pre-existing mild-moderate tinnitus that spikes during her period. She's having extreme anxiety as she's just found out she's pregnant and she's worried about her tinnitus increasing during the pregnancy. She's having those same feeling of anxiety she had in the beginning.
I had to pick her up from the local bank today because she had a panic attack. She's never had one before she said. I feel so bad for her, and can't offer her any advice as my tinnitus came on after my babies were born.
I am worried because she is contemplating ending the pregnancy, but this may not be the best option for her. Obviously I told her she needs to see a doctor about maybe starting some anti-anxiety medication, she got a small dose of Xanax today to get her through the next few days but this can't be a long term solution.

Overall, how do you think the pregnancy affected your tinnitus? Is it the same now as it was before becoming pregnant?

Thanks for any insight you can share, I'm desperate to help my friend.

@Samantha R When I saw Xanax being mentioned with being pregnant I felt like I needed to response. Your friend really should talk to her OB-GYN or a perinatologist about this. There are safer meds such as sotalol. Here is one article of many studies that cautions Xanax use while being pregnant.

I'll share this with my friend Claire.
She's got an appointment at a pregnancy clinic today, so hopefully that will help.
She received five Xanax pills, that's it and if she decides to continue with the pregnancy, it is my opinion she'll need something long term.
