Can You Understand Different Sounds That Overlap (i.e. Speech + TV) Coming from Different Sources?

Can you understand different sounds that overlap (i.e. someone talking to you and TV on the background) coming from different sources?

Another example: in a group discussion, can you be talking to one person and hearing at the same time what the rest of the group is saying?

If you can do this, next question: has hyperacusis or tinnitus affected your ability to understand sounds that overlap, to listed to several sources at the same time understanding all of them?

I definitely have noticed that I have more trouble with this after getting tinnitus/hyperacusis. Don't know why....... But seeing as tinnitus/hyperacusis is sort of brain damage then it doesn't surprise me that it affects other abilities.

I can still hear and locate where the sounds come from, I think this is because my right ear doesn't have tinnitus, but the left one sometimes gets my brain confused, with sounds that are similar to my tinnitus and I can't identify the origin of the sound. My hyperacusis has improved a little now and does not prevent me from locating the origin of the sounds.

My Hyperacusis has affected this for me, and it has also lowered my hearing ability but I think this is temporary as many people with H experience this and once they heal or H is improving hearing tends to improve as well (they're able to focus on people in loud areas more)
