I have single sided deafness related to barotrauma (swimming accident). I can no longer hear in my left ear. I have tinnitus and vertigo. My right ear is extremely sensitive to sounds now.
I am scheduled for surgery this Monday the 13th for a cochlear/vestibular implant. Part of a study at the UofW.
I am concerned of the risks. Vertigo could get worse. The device sound will drive me crazy since my good ear hears speech fine. Possibility of tinnitus becoming worse.
I heard speech can sound horrible if you have one good ear.
Then there's the good - tinnitus could be less to none. If the FDA approves the device I could get a vestibular take-home device.
The device is hard to get used to being on the side of my head. I'd like a Cochlear N7. I may only be able to receive the N6.
What are the results of and options people have taken to help with tinnitus?
Has TRT helped anyone? Meditation?
My tinnitus is bad and gets very loud if exposed to noise or when I have a lot of stress.
Luckily I can sleep.
