Hi there...
I found this forum from researching the internet to find out what has happened to me. Anyway here is my story...
I went to an outdoor shooting range with a friend whilst on Holiday. I was given ear plugs and placed them in my ears before I started. I had never shot before and fired off approx 200 rounds using a Glock and also an AR-15. At no point whilst shooting for that 30 minutes did I experience any pain or discomfort, nor did I think it was excessively loud (bearing in mind I had plugs in).
As soon as I finished and came away from the range my ears started ringing quite loudly and I had a fullness feeling in my ears and could not hear people talk properly. I just thought this was normal maybe due to the loud sound exposure I had experienced. I just thought it would go away after a few hours, similar to when you maybe go to a nightclub and you get the same feeling when you come away from loud music.
Well 3 weeks have now passed and I'm still experiencing loud tinnitus constantly. I have been to my doctor who says he cannot see any damage to my drum and performed some basic tests which he says are normal. Anyway he has referred me to an ENT with the appointment in 8 days time for a hearing test etc. I am currently off work as hearing is crucial for the role I do. My hearing has slightly improved since day 0 but I am currently having difficulty with the TV and also high frequencies. Background noise from driving etc is also very noisy.
I have experienced the full range of emotions since this occurred, from despair through to anger, thinking will I ever be able to live a normal life again. I am so stressed by it all. Will I make any sort of recovery?
Thanks for reading and any sort of response will be greatly appreciated.
