Thats different to me. I think my tinnitus was such a gradual thing that i didn't pay to attention to it until it become reasonably noticeable in quiet rooms. I was still going to concerts but just acknowledging that i had probably damaged my hearing to some degree. Of course I used musicians ear plugs and it was fine. I have somewhat scared myself from going to any more though because of the things I have read on here and other sites.
That's the problem with reading only bad stories though Sam. The real world is full of people with tinnitus attending bars and shows etc. The only problem is that you'll never read about it here or anywhere else. Unfortunately, you only get to see the worst case scenarios on here which represent a tiny slice of the bigger picture.
Most people don't have problems with properly inserted earplugs at shows. But, at the end of the day it's still up to you what you do. You could very well be the next victim of an increase, but statistically it's very unlikely if you're sensible. Again, it comes back to the importance of concerts. They can easily be cut out of your life if you're not that bothered about them, but for musicians it's far more complex.
I think the anxiety and fear surrounding concerts is compounded on support forums.
