Hi All,

I had the Stapedectomy surgery 4 weeks back and noticed a big difference in my left ear after the surgery, especially after removing the cotton ball.

But I am noticing changes in my hearing for the last 2 weeks and also continuous ear ringing.

This is disturbing a lot and affecting my regular work.

Would like to know whether it's normal after stapedectomy? Anyone has the same experience?

Please suggest.

Regards

Did you have tinnitus before the surgery as well?

It is a risk of stapedectomy to develop tinnitus or have an increased tinnitus after it.

Did you do both ears simultaneously?

What changes are you noticing?

What does the ringing sound like?

The ear can take a long time to heal after a stapedotomy. What you hear now may change a lot in a few weeks. I imagine you haven't done your post-op hearing test yet, correct?

There are some possible side-effects of such surgery, which do include T and SNHL.

Hang in there!

My hearing improved, I can notice it while speaking to others and I have done my surgery on feb 11 th 2020.I did not feel any problem during first 4 weeks of surgery. All of sudden it started and it is continuous at high frequency and I am not able to sleep at nights. When I woke up in the morning its gets too worst is there any connection between eye lids opening and middle ear. How many months will it take to subsidize? or it will be for the whole life? what do you think? The ringing sound is like roaring some times it very different with mixed sound i can hear to sounds at once in musical patterns.I did with only with my left year.

What happened before this onset? Were you removing packing? Any trip to the doc for a checkup?

I'd be surprised if there was a link with eyelids. It is not uncommon for T to be "worse when I wake up".

It depends what the root cause is.
When are you doing your post op hearing test? Try to ask for a high frequency test (ie above 8 kHz).

Ok so it's mostly a low frequency T then, rather than a high pitch, correct?

I visited for the routine checkup for removal of stiches and the cotton ball.

I dont know when i woke up i start noticing it and its at a high pitch,to say it more clearit like a saw blade machine cutting the wood and it was 10 times louder than that.

I have my appointment on may 5th with the doctor then i will ask him for the high frequency test.

Its very high and very loud noise sometimes i cant notice it from it was coming it from the ear or middle of the head.any suggestion from you is appreciable.
