In my short time with tinnitus, I have noticed that there seems to be a thousand different apparent causes. Since I have really bad OCD, I will literally research everything for hours on end. One of the issues that I came across that makes sense in my case is TMJ.
Since I was 15 years old (I am 28 now), I have grinded my teeth every single night during sleep. My molars and even a few of my front teeth are now completely flat because of the severity of my grinding.
For the past few years, I have worn Invisalign style retainers while sleeping in order to keep my teeth straight. One added benefit is that I am no longer wearing down my teeth, but I am still grinding and probably putting pressure on my jaw.
For other medical issues in the past, I have wasted a ton of money on trying to find the cause. Is it possible that TMJ is a REAL cause of tinnitus? I would love to just begin the process of habituating to my tinnitus, but I do not want to rule TMJ out if other members have experience.
