Acoustic Trauma
So I noticed when I went to sleep last night there's a crackling noise in my left ear. It only happens when I move my jaw or pull on my ear. Also happens when I shake my head.

So I think it might be earwax or a piece of hair. It is annoying, but on the other hand since noticing this, my tinnitus has been really low.

Should I leave it be? If it's a piece of hair, can it damage the eardrum if i left it for a few days?

@newbieT I have the same symptoms but in both ears. I have mild bilateral hearing loss. ENTs cannot explain the cause of my crackling. I often wonder if I have always had these sounds but my brain was just blocking them out (like it does for heartbeats). However, with my hearing loss, maybe some changes occurred in my brain thus disrupting the blocking function. Who knows.

Is the crackling always there or just when you move jaw/ear?

@newbieT It is not always present. I hear it when I move my ear and sometimes my head. I also hear it when I swallow. However, I don't hear it when I move my jaw.

So just as i suspected it was a piece of hair touchin the eardrum. My dogs hair

u should probably check your ears too since yours sounds similiar
