Daily Mail has published a great article on two patients living with hyperacusis, one in Canada and one in the United States.

It describes how sounds are overwhelmingly loud for hyperacusis sufferers, causing ice pick or burning pain, and suggests a few mechanisms/underlying causes. It also gives a detailed history of both patients and their prior history of noise exposure.

I hope both of these guys can find relief and anyone else reading this that may be suffering. We all deserve it.

I think chronic neuropathic pain management is key. HCN2 channels and Kv7.2/3 openers.

The cochlear nerve is the primary nerve responsible for transmitting auditory information from the cochlea, the organ of hearing in the inner ear, to the brain. Doctors at a Texas hospital attempted to sever it, but couldn't because of its close proximity to nerves responsible for balance and sense of taste. Instead, they sectioned the nervus intermedius, which provides pain sensation to the inner ear.
What a bunch of amateurs.
