Where would you like the money for Danny Boy’s fund to go?

  • Michigan Medicine, Dr. Susan Shore

  • Sonic Lab, University of Minnesota

  • Invite International Applicants

  • PHRC, Prof Thanos Tzounopoulos

  • Propose a scholarship and invite students to participate

  • Schulich Medicine, Dr. Brian Allman

  • Research for better diagnostics

  • Georgetown University Medical Centre, Prof Josef Rauschecker

  • Hough Ear Institute

  • Hearing Health Foundation

  • Neuromod

Results are only viewable after voting.
Since other donors have declared their vote, I've decided to declare mine. I voted to fund a student scholarship as I believe this is the best way to get something out of the small amount we have. In my opinion, it provides significantly better bang for our buck, and we may see something in return.

But this has always been a democratic process and as I promised, everyone has had an opportunity to have their say.

I agree, and this is also my vote. I think of it like a horse race.

Some horses are running already, and will likely proceed unless their hypotheses don't pan out. I'm unsure that such a small amount will make a difference to a single horse's race.

However, we could use more horses, because we currently don't have one that seems to be the winner, for us to rally behind.

I just want to add a reminder and make it clear that donor votes can only be logged by messaging me or by posting your vote here along with the name you donated under.

You can still vote in the general poll, but if you have voted in that and not messaged your vote (as a donor) then I won't know about it, and I can't verify it.

There are still loads of donor votes unaccounted for, so if you want to have your say in the outcome, now's the time to do it.

Once we know who the beneficiary will be we will have one more push to raise more money.

The deadline for the poll will be at midnight (UK time) on the 23rd of September. If you haven't voted yet, and have donated, then make sure you do before this deadline if you want to have your say in the outcome.

In my opinion, the main problem of clinical research is the inclusion criteria for patients.

So who really has tinnitus and not just a shift of attention to the sounds in the ears that everyone naturally has?

Of course, tinnitus is also "only" a psychosomatic disease in individual cases. Like pain in the upper abdomen or difficulty swallowing.

But tinnitus is mostly real, not just a shift in attention. But how can we distinguish between "real" tinnitus patients and psychiatric tinnitus patients?

:dunno:

The poll hasn't ended yet - no results yet!

Sorry Glynis, didn't see his last comment. The results will be announced on Monday the 24th September, so no, Prof Thanos is not the confirmed beneficiary.

I would also add that the poll you can see at the top of this page is the general vote. Only I currently know the latest standings of the donors' vote (the one that matters).

So can I just confirm the funds are going to Professor Thanos? Has he been contacted?

No you can't assume that. @Ed209 is keeping track of the tally for the actual donors' vote.

The forum poll in this thread is open to all the forum members (logistically, the forum software cannot exclude people who have not donated as it doesn't know who did, and some donors were not forum members), but the donors' vote itself (and ultimate choice of where the money goes) is reserved, by definition, to the donors.

If you want to influence where the money will be spent, be a donor! It isn't too late to do if you haven't donated yet: https://www.gofundme.com/lets-cure-tinnitus-and-hyperacusis

Thanks @Ed209 for your reply. OK, can you please confirm here where the funds will be going on 24th September when you announce the results.

To the others: I am already a donor.

Regards.
