I had anxiety & long term stress but I've had that for many years prior to T and got the T from the loud music that one night.

I was having problems with depression for two years. Medication was used to mend the problems but many drugs didn't work. I just layed around the house and it was hard to get out bed to get motivated. It was nearly impossible to go to work but I went anyway. The loud noises from my son's drums didn't phased me. I was too worn out to pick up hearing protection. I thought my hearing would put up with the loud noises through out those two years. I finally got the right combination of drugs to combat my depression. I started to feel good in June 2012 then my tinnitus happen in July 2012. What luck. I'm still upbeat inspite the tinnitus. I haven't stop taking my medication.

I have had some depression and anxiety. Especially when going through perimenopause. My hormones were all over the place. Now that they are balanced I've had only a few anxiety moments and using herbs has worked great. Depression has reared its ugly head on occasion and I've taken meds to get over the hump. Nothing truly long term.

I would want to add in Migraines or Vertigo to some of the conditions above. Ive had migraines pretty much all of my life, less than now but still have them. Vertigo was happening when my hormones were crazy. Vertigo has only happened once since my hormones were balanced and that happened when I had the fluid in my ears and was on all the lovely drugs I think contributed to T.

I have suffered from depression long before the onset of T..I had mild tinnitus 15 to 20 years ago but it was of no great concern. It was during a period of extreme stress that he tinnitus worsened. Also about the time the tinnitus worsened my blood pressure became so high I was forced to start taking BP drugs. I still have BP problems.

I had long-term stress and anxiety. I also had a physical trauma which took quite a while to heal. Have to stay that probably a lot can be done with attitude change.

hard to say really. When I got pulsitile tinnitus in 1999 the only thing out of the ordinary at the time I was pregnant with what would become a miscarriage. In fact I developed hives just prior to finding out the fetus had stopped developing a few weeks prior.

when the ringing tinnitus started in 2011 it was a few days prior to thanksgiving. I guess I would have been under stress due to the holidays. When the volume increased significantly last month I was definitely experiencing major anxiety/stress. For years I've had issues with stress and increased tension in my neck so.. I imagine that's related.

I had NO emotional problems prior to the onset of tinnitus. Once tinnitus took hold of me then all of the usual "nasties" did too, ie, anxiety, depression, loss of sefl confidence, etc. You may wish to add another category to the poll because I am sure there are others like me out there.
But what do you think caused it?

Stress
A multitude of new challenges
Academic pressure
Uncertainty in regards to important life changing things
Hopelessness
Anxiety
Antibiotics
Pain killers
Benzo's
Sleep medication
Fire alarm going off unintentionally close to my door many times
Tension and physical illness
Severe muscle and joint pain
Long term exposure to music trough headset

BANG! Woke up with loud T. You take a pick.
