Do Betahistines Trigger Tinnitus?

Basically what the title asks. Every time I take my betahistines, I notice my tinnitus shoots up from non-noticeable (0.5/10) to a (4-5/10).

My doctor has prescribed this to me as a way for me to recover from my acoustic trauma induced tinnitus.

Why is it ringing, and should I continue taking it?

I go on ok taking it and been on 16mg x3 aday for over 12 years.
What dose do you take ?...lots of love glynis

Other meds would be
Proclorperazine
Cinnarazine 15mg tablets
Diuretics
Betahistine comes in 8mg and 16 mg tablets ...

@TheTinnitusTony If you're taking a medication that is suppose to treat your tinnitus but only makes it worse, why don't you just stop taking it?

I'm so sorry for the late reply! My notifications didn't pop up. Given more time, I realize that it probably was just my body producing pulsatile tinnitus, which has completely dropped off. It is 16mg, which is perhaps a lot. Nevertheless, my regular tinnitus has spiked a little bit in volume, perhaps due to the fact that my pulsatile tinnitus can no longer mask it; in which case I'd argue that my tinnitus has decreased, down to only one ear. Is this a sign of recovery?

@SilverSpiral I am not sure. I took it because it came along with the other assortment of medicines my doctor gave to remedy my tinnitus. Apparently it stabilizes the blood pressure? Could be wrong, though.

You're probably right in the fact that I probably shouldn't be consuming pills if there is no foreseeable benefit. However, I have full faith in my general practitioner, and would not want to steer away from what the doctor prescribed.

I would see your GP and mention that the medication is making it worse. While you trust your doctor, they can't always predict the outcomes of what they prescribe. This seems to very obviously be a negative effect.

It's not better than placebo in noise induced tinnitus. I take it too.
