Tinnitus Since
2016
I got severe ear pain for two months. This is not normal, I think. It does not make sense.
I cried every day. I do have tinnitus, severe. No cause, except flu. I have not been to ent.
yet. Do you all have ear pain? I have to the doctor's no ear infection to be seen.

Thanks for answering. I have seen any one go around two months with an ear ache in my life time. Just curious.

I believe @Telis has severe ear pain with his catastrophic tinnitus. I think others have mentioned it, as well, especially those whose tinnitus is related to inner ear inflammation, past or present.

I have some ear aching and pain. I have read that it could be Tonic Tensor Tympani Syndrome, where the muscle contracts and tightens the eardrum. This is generally a protective mechanism to loud sounds. But now overreacts, even in anticipation to loud sounds. So this might be causing the pain.

Hi I'm new to this site. I've had T in my left ear since 12/2014 following a bad flu. I also had an on and off inner ear ache and was coping with it until about 6 months ago when it became constant and piercing. My GP said to ask my dentist if he sees a possible tooth infection that can cause reflected pain. I had a tooth pulled because they thought it was a root canal gone bad. Pain never went away (1 less tooth). I can get temporary relief from some gooey ear drop medicine designed for babies, but this only masks the problem and you shouldn't use it too often. Besides putting anything into my ear is probably not the best idea.
I definitely feel the tole this problem is having on my quality of life. Poor sleep, popping aspirin & advil. I hope someone comes up with a solution soon.

@Starlord Yes, they said it typically goes away on its own, but surgery can also be an answer if it becomes chronic. I thought I had it at one point, but doctors say there is no way. So I am back to focusing on TMJ as the cause, because it seems most people don't have pain months later.

How is your ear pain now?

I have hyperacusis pain in my ears, brain, and upper throat. Inside the brain is worse and pretty scary as well as painful. Besides noise triggering it I found out this morning that sniffing jasmine oil now gives me immediate pain, too. This actually used to calm me down and cause no pain at all until another bad noise exposure which took place a few months back.

Can you describe the pain? Do you take medication that helps? You think the pain could resolved over time?

The pain is like sharp needles in the ears. The higher pitched the tinnitus gets the more pain there is. Yes sometimes a dull earache accompanies it but not constantly. I take two 5000mg paracetamol per day and sometimes additional ibrupofen.

I'm hoping the pain might go away over time. I guess there's no guarantee though being realistic.
Hope it will go away man. I don't know about how much Ibuprofen can help... It can cause tinnitus...

Paracetamol helps you?

You get it by external sounds at certain frequencies?

Yeah paracetamol helps at least. I know it's a risk with ibrupofen so will probably not use it again. Yes I get different frequencies and its the high pitched ones that seem to physically stab into the ear. Not sure if that's the actual case but whatever it's doing its bloody painful. I don't leave house at all now as noises like heavy road traffic would finish me off. So having to rely on relations for help with food etc as I live alone. I have to go to hospital three times a year as I also suffer from hemachromatosis, so getting there and being in there with all the noise is horrific. Life is like being trapped inside a waking nightmare.

I hope your symptoms will improve. I know how much you want to be pain free.

I've been having the killer tinnitus, louuuuud. Also ear pain that doesn't stop yet. The hyperacusis has been improving.
