Do You Know Other People Who Have Tinnitus?

I know about 4 people who have tinnitus and none of them are as affected as me. They don't use forums or talk about it. Maybe they are stronger mentally or just do not that have that emotion attached to it however loud it is to them.

But then again I was like that before my increase, I never gave it a second thought as I was that habituated and it didn't affect me 99% of the time, just putting a mild noise machine on at night (out of habit more so than for masking). Those were the days!

Tinnitus is a very common condition @Strawberryblonde and many people do habituate to it with ease and seldom mention it as you have found.

I fully understand how you feel because the same thing happened to me. My tinnitus reduced to such a low level that I completely forgot about it most of the time, until it increased in 2008. Although it took 4 years to habituate again and the tinnitus isn't the same as before, I am in a much better place.

I believe you will overcome this setback with your tinnitus and habituate again.

Take care,
Michael

After this - therefore because of this.

There are cases of tinnitus clearing, and if it happens to be after some event, naturally a connection may be drawn where there is no warrant. I am saying this as people may dash out and have COVID-19 boosters hoping to clear their tinnitus when there is no real causal link to remission.
The second shot caused a massive permanent increase in my tinnitus, so no boosters for me. I haven't had COVID-19, mostly due to living like a hermit because of my catastrophic level of tinnitus. Lucky me.

Yeah, I'm not saying that boosters followed by either increase or decrease in tinnitus are not causally linked. They may well be and in my case I'm not having boosters either, just in case.

My other half has tinnitus, it's non-reactive but from what we can establish it is monotonal, bilateral and very loud. She has had it for a decade and, like many, thought very little of it. I've found comfort in having someone close to relay my concerns to, and I can ensure she doesn't make the same mistakes I have.

I posted something on Instagram a week back asking if anyone else I knew had it and I had 4 responses. All with varying severity, all making varying adjustments to make life more comfortable.

And most importantly, all of you guys.

Quite a few. Most say they can "hear it in a quiet room", but one friend who played guitar in a heavy metal band had it much worse than me. It has mostly subsided for him now, and he was one of the first friends I called up when I was ready to go out into the world again after my severe tinnitus started to become more manageable again.
