Do You Think Dogs Can Have Tinnitus?

Actually, cat purring is my favorite noise on my white noise app! My ears love it.

Animals certainly can be sensitive to noise and also experience anxiety, as we do. My dog has separation anxiety and when I was reading a professional article about it recently, was interested to see how similar the neurological mechanism was to anxiety in humans. I am not sure if animals' brains/neurological systems would compensate for inner ear hair cell death by generating tinnitus. Dogs and cats certainly can go deaf, or be born deaf.

Regardless, your pets, just like you, should not be subjected to loud noises.

most tinnitus research uses animal models and is based on the assumption that tinnitus can be generated in animals through ototoxic drugs and noise trauma -- it's pretty horrid research to do, honestly. I want a cure as much as anyone else here, but so far we have no cures and we've tortured a hell of a lot of animals.

Sooner would I choose to loose all My senses than to have a dog/cat suffer for Me, I am not saying these tests are done on them alone, a closer analogue for Human would be Chimpanzee, not that I approve of torturing any animal, I myself would happily stand in for them, at least then I can tell the researchers yea or nay.

As for Dogs getting Tinnitus, I can say for certain mine do not.
