Does Anyone Else Hate Facebook?

For the first 30 years I had been mostly happy in Canada. This is the reason why right now I am saddened by Canada's demise, but this has nothing to do with any of my earlier posts in this thread.
Do you think Canada is getting worse? Why?

I have a friend living there and she is so happy... it's supposed to be a great place to live, isn't it?

Were you considering to switch to a Russian-sounding name, for the sake of the Russians around you?

Yes, but not for the sake of Russians. More as a joke. But i'm not changing it anyway, it was just another fling with insanity lol

I don't care that I stand out. But it's gotten me into a hell of a lot of bother in one way or another.

When you see injuries that are incompatible with life (or the equivalent thereof), you know the person/country before you is dead, even if they are still moving. The standard of living has been deteriorating at an accelerating pace, but right now it is still decent. I am just thinking ahead.

I didn't realize that the likelihood of finding a person who doesn't see it (yet) is still non-negligible. That's ok - you'll see it/experience it soon enough.

This whole thread is you trying to out-weird yourself for reactions. Wish people didn't fall for it.

Note to self - do not reply to anyone on your Ignore list - a rule I broke when I replied to you earlier. But to address your comment, I am just being myself. Your comment reminds me of an ex-girlfriend's advice before my big job interview: "Don't be yourself!"

And TRUST ME - if I were to live in a free country, I would Gladly stop being vague and spell it out for you why UK is a country in decay.

You are using the Ignore list wrong.
No need to worry about me. Once a month or so, I randomly click on "show ignored content" text link, and that's when I sometimes get sucked into replying to the type of a person who proved to be worthy of being on my Ignore list.

What's the advantage of using a messenger app compared to using e-mail?
It's just more convenient tbh especially if I'm messaging friends every day and not just for big updates. I mean I haven't really used email for chatting to friends since like 2008 lmao when I was 12. I don't really have too many of my friends' email addresses either - as a twenty-something it's just not really my primary mode of communication.

Is the UK still in the EU, not part of the EU...? They need to clarify this...

Still in Europe, but not in the European Union any longer. Still trying to work out a deal, if we even get one at all, but definitely out of the EU.

Out of curiosity, what has @Tanni done to warrant being on your ignore list? She hasn't really said or done anything controversial.

The thread in question was deleted where it got so nasty so you wouldn't be able to see the controversial comments. I will just say though that you don't have to be the controversial one to be blocked. Bill has blocked someone in the past for having a nose piercing.

But let's move on quickly before a row starts! :)

I don't really understand why the EU tries to strike a deal. What's in it for the EU?

Erm, a little over my head as politics is not my strong suit but I guess they want to continue to have the option to trade with us? And vice versa of course.

It's all a bit of a mess really, isn't it.

It's been already over 4 years of pointless conversations that lead nowhere... the EU - UK talks... money wasted on politicians having dinner at our expense.

@Juan & @Tanni Basically we would both benefit more from trade if we have a deal than if GB is heading towards a no-deal (which would be more devastating for them than for us, as we are less dependent on their import/export than vice versa). But the question remains if we reach a deal before the end of the year, as Boris Johnson has set the deadline at the end of 2020 to get Brexit done. We still need to settle on equal competition in the manufacturing industry (e.g. Great Britain wants to lower/diminish rules & standard to make their industry more competitive, but the EU does not want a race to the bottom for blue collar workers), fishery policy, special EU status Northern Ireland, transportation rights, etc. We already moved back and forth the last few years and it is slowly getting frustrating. According to our EU negotiator, Michel Barnier, it would be very unlikely that we reach a deal at the end of the year.

Yep. Time to rip the Band-Aid off and start dealing with the consequences.

completely defeats the point of an ignore list
You have a strange definition of the word "completely": I get to not see 99.99% of the posts by the people whose opinion I don't care about.
Still in Europe,
You don't say!

I Should have created a Database with the names of the people who were unfortunate enough to get on my Ignore list and the reason that got them there, but - alas - I failed to do so. It looks like we might never find out what it was that got Tanni there. Common reasons: opinions about politics that I strongly disagree with, and mentioning taking drugs (which includes "weed").

Trade makes everyone better off.

Were you for or against the UK leaving the EU?

I was for, but only if it was handled properly. Unfortunately, the virus has hit at just the wrong time, too.
It's now going to be one hell of a struggle, but I am all for the UK becoming more independent and self-reliant as much as possible.

I can see Scotland breaking away sooner or later, which is a shame and a very big headache in many ways, eg in relation to defence and general security, but we will just have to deal with it.

I hope the UK doesn't try to reenter the EU, but I could see that happening.

Thing is that I would never have questioned the UK being part of the EU if a referendum hadn't have been held.

I'm seriously considering deleting Facebook for a few reasons but mostly because I want to "move on." However I'm afraid I might regret this because I will lose all the connections. I still have good memories with people from high school, prior roommates, friends from internships etc from years ago etc but we lost touch. I would be cutting off the (rare) possibility we will ever meet again.

Anyone delete their account, and then regret this?

I didn't mind it but I deleted mine 6 months after I got hyperacusis because watching it either became like being stuck in a point in time watching everyone else move forward in life or, like watching my life drift into the past. I miss the connections I had and the chances of meeting people again in the future but that's not something I'd risk now anyway (driving, meeting up in pubs and restaurants, have they got noisy kids / dogs etc.). I drifted away from all friend circles anyway once I got hyperacusis. Honestly, I still have difficulty explaining this to my very closest family after years, so meeting up with some old friend and having to begin to explain it wouldn't be much fun for either of us.

I did start another Facebook though, but only really use it for hyperacusis groups.
