Does It Mean Something When a Sound Causes Tinnitus to "Wobble"?

Cause of Tinnitus
Unknown, sound exposure?
While using AudioNotch to find my tinnitus tones, I at one point felt the tinnitus "wobble" on and off, kind of like if you blow into a fan and hear the wind getting chopped up by the blades. It only lasted for a moment and didn't seem to change anything. Did this mean I found a relevant tone and should focus on that? Was I risking damage to the ear somehow?

Any insight would be great, thanks!

Does your tinnitus have a specific tone? I noticed that mine was most sensitive to the frequency that caused the NIHL.

That's what I was trying to find with the tone generator. I think there's a main tone around 7.0-7.5 kHz (that's where the warbble happened, has not repeated on future tests). There are some lower pitch tones which randomly fade in and out with no apparent cause.

What is "NIHL"?
