Hi!

Sorry this is going to be a fairly long post but please bear with me as I'm frantic.

I have had off and on ETD/occasional PET.

I have tinnitus for too many years & it mostly doesn't bother me. I get the occasional spike (goes incredibly loud and ear feels full and peters off) but twice since January I've had the oddest very scary episodes...

Suddenly I get a low tone (like bass/vibration) tinnitus when I speak, my ears gradually feel incredibly full with this very loud tinnitus (my normal tone but much louder) then noises & my voice start to distort (it vibrates my head and eardrum, I can actually feel the ear drum flutter).

I have no hearing loss. My ears look clear & eustachian tube works fine but it doesn't release the pressure. It gradually recedes over a period of about 6 hours. I contacted an ENT online who says it sounds like cochlear hydrops which has terrified me to be honest.

Any thoughts??

Do you have any jaw problems as TMJ can cause ear pressure ....lots of love glynis

Then it doesn't work fine?
What i mean is that they open and close as they should which leads me to think its inner ear pressure rather than middle because surely if it was middle then the eustachian tube opening wpuld relieve the pressure??

Yes you are right it would. A tympanogram can confirm if there are really pressure problems. Have you had a recent audiological evaluation?

I haf my last hearing test about a year ago and am going back to ent next friday, would the tympanogram show inner ear or middle ear pressure?? In between these 2 episodes my ears have been fine??

Middle ear only. The tools to test inner ear function are very limited.

inner ear ct scan . and neuroradiologist report should clear out any doubt about cochlear hydrops or something else
