My t started about ten days ago, it's in three different tones ones a high pitched ring in the left ear but can hear it a bit in the left, a hissing white static noise tone badly in my left ears and slight in the right and a low tone in both.

I don't know if my brain has choose to ignore the low tone or it's not too loud but I don't hear that often as the hissing and ringing are louder.

But every now and then one of the tones seems to stop but for a second like my whole hearing goes for one slip second.
But my ears feel full all the time and pop from time to time.

But the high pitch stopped for a few seconds and obviously I noticed and soon as I did it came back but is that my brain learning to switch off from it or is it actually going?
Same with the hissing but in the morning I don't tend to hear it when I wake up till a moment I come too and bang it's as loud as ever.

Anyways back to my question ,
Does your t every change as in does it change tones ? Does it every blend in where you can't notice it much ?

Mine can get loud if some thing has been quiet and they just turned the light or open a door or turn to channels over.

It's always there and it's hard at the moment to get away from it .
But does any one have this where certain taps and bangs make it worst ?

I'm praying it's loud because I've had what I'd think is a head Cold , been sneezing a bit, running stuffy nose, pressure behind the eyes and head ache and of course stuffed uo ears.
And a high temp and I was told I had a virus about a month or two ago but wasnt given anything to treat it . So it could all be due to that.
But no answers yet

But I have a few other issues that made my doctor concerned , I have blurred vision and halos around lighting , I've been to the opticians and I've got glasses but they see nothing wrong with my eyes, I see very bad ghosting of writing or imagines on black backgrounds , and sensitive to light . Also I have a very sensitive hearing even tho I've got t I can still hear very well to the point I can't tell if the fish tank filter is on or off and that's down stairs in the back room. Also I have a very high sense of smell that no one seems to pay attention to ( doctors) I smell smells that are not even there most of the time , or very subtle but to me there are strong .
And my taste has altered for a long time things taste not as they used to. I blame that on my asthma inhalers though.

But I've always feared I've got something wrong with me but no answers.
I wounded if I have a brain tumor some times haha and that's why I now have t :/
But that's me thinking negative but I guess it would be more noticeable if I did .

Yes,

I have unliteral tinnitus. There is a steady high frequency tone. If I yawn or plug my ears I hear it very clearly. The tone is accompanied with "electrical" chirps and squeaks. There is also a "metallic" hiss/aura/ring that accompanies the solid tone.

To be honest, after seven years of living with this I can honestly say that it does change. The tone is always there, 24/7. But If I am stressed, fatigued, or highly anxious it is clearly more audible. In addition, If I am very occupied or busy it becomes less audible. There have been points in the last seven years where I've placed my head down on my ear on the pillow and been surprised "oh yeah, my ear rings!". Some nights I lie down and listen to the tone and the noises and see if there any changes and fall asleep to it. If I am stress free/low anxiety the chirps don't happen.

Unfortunately now is one of my anxious times and it is just as audible as the day I messed up my ear. Working towards being stress free and eliminating anxiety from my life!

I think we all have spikes. I only have to look at a packet of salted nuts to set mine off. Stay away from loud places as well and use good ear protection if you have to fly or anything else like cutting the grass. And have a good diet.

Mine changes all day with jaw, neck movements. It gets incredibly loud around 5 to 8 in the evening and reacts incredibly loudly to noise. Impossible to habituate to this noise.

The easiest way to determine if you have a brain tumor is to go to a neurologist and get an MRI of your brain. My wife thought that was a possibility in my case, so I had it done. They found my brain and it was normal, no tumor.

Mick I was just wondering if you had any problems re the noise values and the MRI?

Problem is the noise associated with the MRI. It is around 115 decibels at most of the closed MRI's and I cannot find an open one nor a lower volume one. I cannot get the foam plugs into my ears so that they fit properly and am terrified of the noise doing more damage. I went once for an MRI but chickened out. Even the MRI operator agreed that it is very loud and if I am afraid of noise then it could be dangerous.
What to do?
Have another appt for MRI coming up on Thursday. Went to an audioligist shop today to try to find plugs that would be efficient and that were easy to fit. Got there at 6.15pm only to find that it is only open on mondays to 6pm and on Thurdays the same hours....twice a week only - incredible!
So again no ear plugs so cant go through with it.
This is the problem with the MRI'S.
Wanting to do a silent scan instead but no, the docs dont agree with this....loads more radiation and the docs want MRI or nothing so no test at all. When I discuss the noise problem with them they just laugh at me and say oh it is not a problem.
Someone on TT has said that the MRI gave him T !!! as well as other reports on line re damage hearing and MRI's....
So what to do? I have no idea!
You have had an MRI - please can you post how it was and the noise exposure etc..
How long were you in the tunnel?
thanks

For me I have usually just the one really high-pitched tone in my right ear. However, sometimes I'll get a tone in my left ear and it will be a different frequency. But only lasts for a few minutes. The other day I had 3 different tones. Two in the right ear (one high and one medium range) and then a medium tone in my left ear.

So yeah - it changes. But most of the time it is the same tone in the same ear.

@amandine I was nervous about the MRI as well but it ended up ok. I used foam earplugs and went to an open MRI where I sat down and it was open in front of me so I watched tv. It took about an hour or so because they did it with and without the contrast dye. I think most places may allow you to also wear ear muffs over the plugs if the muffs are all plastic no metal.
Why can't u use the foam plugs? I roll them in my fingers to compress them, then stick it in my ear, it will slowly expand to block your ear.

I've had T for three weeks now and am starting to experience a pattern. There is a buzzing sound that gets loud for about 1-2 days, then it turns into a higher pitch hiss...but then drops about 80% in volume where I can only hear it if I really try to. Very easy to live with. That lasts about 1-2 days before going back to the louder buzzing; then repeat.

@dh42

Maybe I missed it, but you must have had other symptoms besides T for them to do the MRI?
No - no other symptoms at all. This is standard practice in france and generally on the western front I think. I even had to get myself to an ent cos didnt even get a referral from doc. So no other symptoms no.

I dont know if @Rube had other symptoms?

that is the problem. Only closed MRI's here. And i cannot get the foam plugs in my ear. Maybe i have small ear canals. partner cannot get them in his ear either and he tried for ages. Maybe he has small ear canals too. So i cannot get adequate hearing protection which is what i wrote in my post including the fact that no other type available apart from closed ones. I have tried for hours. That is why i went to the audio shop today to try to buy proper hearing protection that i could fit easily. Then i would be happy to do the MRI. But if i do it without hearing protection it could cause more problems. The staff at the MRI told me to put squished up paper tissue in my ear.....but i dont think this is sufficient to protect the ear. Not professional really is it?

I had MRI at ENTs request to rule out Acoustic neuroma, standard practice to rule out that issue.
I'm not sure I understand why the foam plugs won't fit you , are you compressing them first before trying to insert into your ear?
I tried to add link to a YouTube video but didn't work, go to YouTube and search for proper way to insert foam earplugs.

@Rube

I watched the vid on youtube but cant get them in.....
i compressed and compressed and cant get them in - as soon as i get them close to my ear and try to put them in they go in a bit but not all the way and they expand
partner is usually good with his hands but cant get them in either
did u find it easy from first go?
this is the only reason MRI wanted - to rule out - but no other symptoms

When you go to insert them in your ear, spin the compressed foam plug as you are inserting into your ear.

Interesting as here in the U.S. I don't see many doctors recommending MRIs for just regular Tinnitus especially if there is hearing loss documented.

Has anyone in the U.S. reading this had one done?

Also to anyone...

When I get the buzz sound (instead of the hiss) it doesn't even sound like it's coming from my ears. It sounds like it's just something in the room. Do you get the sensation of that?

Amandine, take 5mg's of Valium before getting in the MRI. It takes about 25 minutes. Keep your eyes closed and stay relaxed, with the Valium you will be just fine. Don't worry about your T the MRI will not impact it at all. Mick
