My ear canal has been itching on and off for the past 2 days. I worry an ear infection may be coming on and want to avoid antibiotics if possible. Is there anything I can do to help prevent an infection from occurring?

My ears itches as well sometime (I think it's because I use ear plugs so often) but then I use some ear oil (the kind that prevents wax and so on) from the pharmacy and it disappears right away!

Maybe dilute some hydrogen peroxide with 1:1 water and dip a q-tip in it and *very carefully* clean out your ear? Anyone that thinks that's a bad idea feel free to speak up.

Went to my ENT today without an appointment. Got in right after lunch when it was empty. They didn't see any signs of infection, but they did see a hair that could have been the cause. Man, pulling that hair out hurt. They said if it happened again, try Pro Ear.

I use herbal ear drops that have mullein, garlic and olive oil in it. Research it if you like. It seems safe.

My inflammation and irritation cleared up. I was prescribed amoxicillin but I read a study that the ear drops worked just as well or better.

what's the brand name of the ear drops?

There is some new research that suggests that ear itching can be from jaw tension (as can fullness). My young ENT who is also a surgeon told me this when I was trying to solve the ear fullness. I tried a bunch of things to relax the jaw and amazingly the fullness was starting to decrease and the itching went away. Worth trying.

It could well be allergies to pollen etc.
It can make your ears itch inside, irritate your throat especially with hayfever.

love glynis
