Eardrum Reacts (Vibrates) Randomly to Any Sound — Doesn't Cause Ear Pain Though

Hello, I am six months into tinnitus (my 'new' tinnitus I should say, as had it for years non intrusive but since left ear infection it's become intrusive).

I've noticed that my eardrum in that ear can react to any sounds, quite randomly, sort of vibrates but doesn't hurt. I have had this off and on before but it's been more noticeable the last few days.

I am wondering if I am just focusing on it too much (which is something I do a lot of and really catastrophise things) and whether it will settle itself down in time?

Also the ENT said I have a layer of wax on that ear (hardened by ear drop meds) that lies across that eardrum, so don't know if it's to do with that.

I would appreciate any advice please if anyone's experienced anything similar. I don't think it's TTTS as have none of other symptoms.

Hey! Based on your explanation, I think that I've experienced that several times, but only for a real short period of time. For example after someone slammed a door, my one of my ears would do that.

It's been some time since I experienced it, but I also guess that it has to do with ear wax. I go to the ear specialist once in a year to get my ears cleaned safely. Why did the ENT not remove the cluster of wax if he saw it?

However, it's not like the vibrating only stopped after visiting a doctor: it just stopped. Sometimes I wonder if it's related to nervous ticks (like the ones that you can have in you eyelids) instead of the earwax. But it will go away, don't worry. My mother would say: "Have you ever met a person who told you that their ears are always vibrating?"

Thank you so much for your reply. The ENT said the wax layer would be difficult to remove at that time because it was hardened and sitting across eardrum so he gave me earcalm spray to try and dissolve it, but I don't think it has yet. I do think it's connected to my nerves/anxiety as well, i will try not to focus on it. Thanks again!
