Effectiveness of Intratympanic Dexamethasone With Lidocaine (Lignocaine) for Alleviation of Tinnitus

The study at Mass Eye and Ear is just to see what parts of the brain react to the lidocaine so they can tidy target areas.

Well that makes sense. But of course we all know that Lidocaine only has a temporary effect on tinnitus.

I'd be hoping for something more permanent, myself.

I recently received a shot of Lidocaine next to the left ear as part of a root canal procedure, and it completely silenced my tinnitus for several hours and lowered the intensity for several more. It took more than 24 hours to go back to baseline.

I'd definitely take a hyper-target shit of Lidocaine daily if that didn't become less effective with time and helped silence my tinnitus for good.

Regardless, it's a relief to know that there is a substance that finally has an effect on tinnitus.

When I called Mass Eye and Ear, they said Lidocaine is not option for regular treatment.

I had an perfusion of the inner ear on both ears at the Shea Clinic in Memphis TN around 2004 and 2005. The Shea Clinic did a lot of research for Tinnitus that was in my opinion not successful, but was as I understood was helpful to people with Ménière's disease. As for my 2 separate surgeries they did not have any lasting effect. The Dexamethasone and lidocaine were medicines used.

Hey @IntotheBlue03, what are you doing in this neighbourhood?! There is a thread in the Success Stories section of someone getting better using this method. I don't remember the cause of their tinnitus, but I also don't remember anything specific on acoustic trauma.

I believe most of the pathology will be the same with tinnitus, no matter what the trigger. We need to fix these aberrant signals. So ask away!

@Bruce NH USA, is it just for an MRI or will you see an ENT?

I wonder why more people in USA don't ask about intratympanic Dexamethasone (with Microwick).
I saw two ENTs in Boston, recently, and one of them said he could get me into the study.

At the current time, I'm not really interested in doing the study due to a) Lidocaine being only temporary and b) I loathe MRIs.

Of course, I'm at the 3-month point with my tinnitus spike, so if I get really desperate for a bit of relief, I may reconsider...

I guess I'm really just working on habituation, which is a struggle...

Interesting. Was this in your mouth, the soft palate?
