That's the only thing neuroscientists give him credit for, actually.Apart from the quality of Elon's product or research, he is definitely drawing the interest of the masses towards neuroscience—albeit a diluted, commercialized version.
Even if it were just WSB that pays attention, it would still spread out from there to more mainstream channels.
Even if nothing comes from it, raising more awareness is still a good thing.
Wait, what I just saw this, you have to be kidding me!
He may pull it off, but just pad his ETAs by several orders of magnitude and expect some surprisingly careless screwups along the way, as has been the case with everything he's done outside of SpaceX (which has had a pretty good track record...so far).If a brain-computer interface is going to solve tinnitus, it's not going to be Elon's. His is one of the worst out there, he's just very famous.
That's what I thought Lenire was supposed to do and we saw how that turned out. I want to believe but I'm skeptical. On a related note, a redditer explained how Neuralink will resolve tinnitus. How plausible is this?
"They will implant the electrodes in your Auditory Cortex. Then identify what the neural patterns in that area look like when you are suffering from the ringing in your ears. Then they will try and stimulate those neurons with destructive interference to cancel out that ringing, it's a similar technique to how noise canceling headphones work just with brain signals instead of audio ones."
Yes, they're kidding you.Wait, what I just saw this, you have to be kidding me!
I lack knowledge about Neuralink, can someone just summarise for me how this may help tinnitus and is it aimed towards us with tinnitus?
Fuck yes, I'm telling everybody Elon is the key. Tinnitus is in our brains. This is a brain chip, this will cure everybody. In 5 years we should be good. Screw Frequency Thereapeutics, Otomony, Hough Ear Institute, and Pipeline, all of them. We all appreciate that they are trying but, let's be real, there is such a little chance that any of those companies will succeed.I've just read that next year the first humans are going to get Neuralink. The end is near guys. Be happy.
Elon has the money and desire. He will make it happen.Fuck yes, I'm telling everybody Elon is the key. Tinnitus is in our brains. This is a brain chip, this will cure everybody. Let's be real. I really hope they succeed more than anything. But now that I am completely debilitated, wanting to jump off a bridge every day, I do not want to have hope for these companies to maybe give my life back 5-10 years for now. If Neuralink can download language into our brain then it can for sure help with ear problems.
Imma apply for the trial lol.Elon has the money and desire. He will make it happen.
I hope you get some relief.Imma apply for the trial lol.
Has this been confirmed?I've just read that next year the first humans are going to get Neuralink. The end is near guys. Be happy.
I mean let's be real. 99 percent of the people on this planet think that if you fuck your ears up, you just lose hearing. And they are like "oh yeah hearing aids, if it gets bad and you are all good." I wish I just had hearing loss. They don't realize that tinnitus, dysacusis, hyperacusis, all of these debilitating conditions can happen to people. Most people have no idea. But I know ear problems are usually coming from the ears, but the debilitation is in the brain.I don't see how Neuralink can be of benefit if it doesn't have any capacity of regenerating the cochlea. Neither cochear synapses nor hair cells. So it would do nothing for auditory input and hearing perception quality.
Yea I don't know how or why dysacusis and reactive tinnitus occurs. I wish I knew what part of the brain is responsible for it.I mean let's be real. 99 percent of the people on this planet think that if you fuck your ears up, you just lose hearing. Neuralink will most likely not give people back more hearing but will cancel the tinnitus out in the head, turning them into the normal part of the population who just have hearing loss. Worst case scenario, the Neuralink will give our brain the ability to ignore the noise, and cope with it. It is all explained from people who have severe hearing loss but no tinnitus. It is mostly in the brain.
The hyperacusis I'm still not sure if it is a brain problem or inner ear problem. I would say a bit of both as well but my dysacusis would make most people jump off a bridge. When I am extremely focused on something, sometimes I tune it out for a while, as soon as I think about it I hear how horrible it is.
Regenerative medicines are the best chance to cure all of us but if they fail, help lies in the brain.
Is Elon's device for all types of tinnitus or just some? I have tinnitus from neck and jaw issues.Fuck yes, I'm telling everybody Elon is the key. Tinnitus is in our brains. There is no trial yet. One of their presentations included a slide saying it could treat tinnitus and hearing loss.Where can this information be found? To be a part of the trial?
I saw it. I don't know if it was on their website or on YouTube. Do some searching.Where was this presentation? Link?
Synchron have been given FDA approval to do trials for Alzheimer's, depression, headaches and something else I can't remember. Even though it's not tinnitus YET, it is a great step in the right direction. I think brain-computer interfaces will be, not just ours, but many people's golden ticket with different conditions.A competitor to Elon Musk's Neuralink has edged out its rival in getting permission for a trial to implant chips in people. The brain data transfer company Synchron has gotten the green light from the FDA to begin a human trial of its brain chip, according to a press release issued Wednesday, Jul 28, 2021.
