Hi guys - I've tried not to monitor my T when is it loud annoying, higher in tone volume etc I'm trying to think if one day I struggle the next will be better etc positive thinking etc and I've coped and trying to get on with life and T ups and downs

BUT - does anyone else feel during the evening time once work is over and home tea time routines done - I settle down to TV and relaxing (the tv is normally enough to mask my daytime T) and the background noises of the home but evening time my ears and head buzzzzzz it's like static as soon as I sit to relax it's there static buzzzz ?! I know once I head to bed the static buzz will still be there and I try to mask it but it overtakes the high pitch tone that I've always thought is my T - I only hear the high tone in my left ear but this static noise is in my whole head and It overtakes all my hearing if that makes sense ?

Can anyone relate to this !? Cher x

Let me try and explain, what I think might be the explanation:

The high pitched T is hard to mask as not many other daily sounds has a very high pitch. The reason you are hearing it all day is probably because of that rather than it's volume itself.

Then at evening you have another tinnitus, the buzzing one, which is probably one of those that gets worse when tired. And then it 'masks' your high pitch tinnitus.

I also hear mainly the screeching solos in daytime, and the rest of the orchestra comes along in more quiet settings. :)

My head is always static noisy. If I plug my ears I can hear a single tone under it all, but over that I have a bunch of electrical, buzzing static noise. Sometimes it is really loud and sometimes not.

Although my T remains constant (I think) I notice it much more inthe evening when all my jobs are done for the day.

I think partof this is physcological, ie the build up to the worst time when I'm in bed and it is basically all I can hear.

I think the other part is likely that at home and at night there is less ambient noise, and definately less variety in noise that there is during the day. I've found ifI have various devices on in the background it can help, at the moment I really want to see if the 'complex' noise of a tape player helps!

That sounds exactly what I hear @erik - I've often wondered if during the evening my ears are reacting to the busy sounds and distraction that I've had through the day and now in the evening when the atmosphere is quieter they react and the brain over compensates ?! Right now the dishwasher is on I can hear the humming the tv in the front room is also on and I can hear the giggles of my youngest daughter my husband is sleeping ( sigh wish I could ) on the sofa next to me - the dog is snoring and making whimpering noises in his dreams and I hear buzzzzzzzz. I'm tired and so want to sleep the last 2 days have been tough -my ears buzz tonight loud I've taken my magnesium my valerian and I'm ready for my rescue remedy drops later I hope I sleep past 1am which seams to my wakening hour I hope to drop off again before the clock ticks past 2 the 3 am ...... I'm fed up of nighttime pillow fights I have rarely slept all night since this began and I long to enjoy the comfort of my bed without fear or worry about sleep. I'm tired and fed up . Rant over .... Cher x

@Cher69 : ranting is fine. We all need to vent sometimes. T is a nasty thing to deal with at times so it is only natural to be annoyed and frustrated. You are on the right track. It is a slow and steady progress, but you are getting there. stay the course and one day you will look back and wonder how you made it thru all of this but you will.

I also feel that in the evening my tinnitus gets louder or at least it is harder to deal with it. I guess during the day the brain is more able to filter out the tinnitus sound and concentrate on other things. Then in the evening when we start to get tired, it affects the brains ability to filter out the sound and it appears more noisy to us. Unfortunately, would be nice to have quite tinnitus nights.

I haven't had very restful nights lately either..I feel I wake up many times a night. Some nights are better than others though. But I believe we should be able to get used to the tinnitus sound and sleep well with it. I have a fridge in the same room where I'm sleeping and I also listen to water sounds or relaxation music the whole night. If I can stand the fridge, I should be able to sleep with the tinnitus as well, right?

It must have something to do with the reaction/anxiety the tinnitus causes. I guess if the buzz you are describing would be the sound of a fridge/other electrical device, you could sleep perfectly with it. So we just have to work on our reaction towards the sound.

Riikka,
I think you're right about the anxiety reaction the tinnitus causes. I've been having a lot of sleep problems, too, and wake up many times during the night --- even on the nights that I actually sleep! I also have a pulsating sound that I cannot mask or shut out, and it is overwhelming at night.

It is our reaction to the sound that keeps us from falling asleep; if we can master that, sleep will improve.

I wish us all quieter nights!!

I have that to. When its too quiet i feel like its in my whole head! But once i hear any other noise its gone, i hear it too when i cover my ears i used tp describe it as super fast rushing bubble noise. but i guess buzz works too, I've had this before the T though, That's why i could probable just ignore it if i choose to :)

Agree. I've been cricketing for 4 years, and it's no longer a problem. I would prefer silence, but sign me up for spending the rest of my life like I am now. I was upset at the beginning, but not anymore.

However... at nights I'm getting a distant, different, continuous tone, and I've always been frightened that it could go louder and permanent. Is it maybe because the sound is new? maybe I'm going again through the whole I-can't-live-like-this routine.

I also wake up several times at night, but I'm able to go quickly to sleep.

I'm curious to know why tinnitus increases at nights. Changes in electrical activity? it can't be just being tired, it's probably in some book. And what is the emoji for clueless anyway? this little guy looks more sad than unsure.

Hi Cher69,

this kind of static noise had been around for years but never bothered me at the least (that is what I realise now).
For me that was silence and I even liked it when trying to sleep (isn't that strange ). However, since the onset of (a new) T (a high pitch at 4kHz end of August) I also have become more aware of this static noise or it has actual increased in loudness too. I don't know whether of the two is the case. I hope the first, since if it is the second one I'm afraid it only will get worse over time (wrong thoughts and focus, I know!).

For example, yesterday I have been out (indoor soccer followed by a pub visit (not crowded at all) and when caming home, my static noise was quite active. Maybe this static noise always had been that active after those kind of things but again never bothered me but since my T onset I have become more aware of this activity (focus?) or it really had become more sensitive to exposure to noises?
This morning the static was back at a 'normal' level. I really don't know what to make of it.
This is what makes me like I believe the majority of T sufferers mad!

As Frohike said, sign me up for spending the rest of my like I am now (including the uprisings like last night, knowing it will fade) and I'm happy (again).
It is like chronic pain or something... you can adapt to a certain level but there is a point of no return at which you no longer able to adapt (at least that is my believe). I don't want to reach that level!

Looks all of use have this static noise and unfortunately we are the ones that became aware of it and it wont let us loose anymore...

@Cher69, hi Cher, sorry to resurrect an old post, but I was wondering, do you still get the static noise you described above? I didn't get it when I first developed tinnitus, but get it often now. It tends to be either all day and evening , or not at all. It's almost like whatever I wake up with is set for the next waking hours! At work I can hear it more than the tonal T.
It sounds like when you walk close to electricity pylons and can hear the lines crackling. Was yours like that? Has it changed at all in the months since the thread above?

Yes it has got better less intrusive loud or maybe I've learnt to not let it worry me and as a result it's less loud ! But it is just like the hiss buzz after you've been to a concert xx

@LondonGirl I think our t noise changes as we adapt and react to it I get my usual high pitch tone in my left ear now only when it's really quiet if I wake up in the night which I do a lot ! I get buzzy static noise when stressed tired etc I even had singing I heard music when at my lowest point at te beginning - the thing is it accept it's a noise it's in ya head the noise so try and distract from it hence we all have masking on our coping strategy - the thing is we can only cope and accept a little at a time trust me a year ago I was in a mess so the static evening noise will pass or you will learn to ignore it and it will leave you alone - keep busy do something to avoid the noise you will find a way that works xx keep me posted

Thanks @Cher69, I am starting to find things easier psychologically though the noise is the same I think. Last night I became paranoid I could hear a new noise but I think the mosquito bites I've woken up with may explain that one!

I have been taking paracetamol and antibiotics for my throat infection. My tinnitus has become sharp high pitched static noise since a few days. Are my medicines to blame for this ? Any similar experience?

It could be the paracetamol which is an NSAID and can cause/increase T but usually it is temporary. Also certain antibiotics can do the same thing. It would be difficult to know for sure but it could most likely just be a temporary reaction to these meds.

Hi @Cher69
I also get the static type head sound in the evenings which is annoying because I can hear over the TV most of the time and I never hear it in the day or the ringing in my left ear until the evening :( I am grateful that I get a break from my T throughout the day though and only tend to here it when I'm not doing anything :)
