How to best ask this question? Not tinnitus per se, but just a very short ring, shorter than a transient tinnitus episode. Maybe more like a "ping??"

I have gotten a 1-2 second "ping" and wonder if that means "damage" or simply the stereocilia being overwhelmed for a second.

Ex.
I bit into an ice cube and the resulting crunch made my ear ring for a second.
Sometimes removing an ear plug (suction) crackles my eardrum and results in a quick ping sometimes, likewise simply pushing the earplug in further causes the same "ping" with the slight compression of the eardrum.

Are these pings damaging? What is going on in the ear when this happens?

My "worse" ear seems much more susceptible to this, and I really never noticed this pre-trauma.

Just curious... thanks.

I've been experiencing something similar to this for years although for me it always seems random and that it's accompanied by a moment of sudden hearing loss.
