External Sounds "Sticking" to Your Ears, Anyone?

Since about last year or so, I have an issue in my left ear, the "worse" one. I mentioned it in a thread but nobody said anything, so I ask here.

Whenever I hear a pure tone in certain frequencies (mostly in the high frequencies), like the tones used for hearing test or to match tinnitus, that tone keeps being heard in my ear for some minutes, sometimes maybe half an hour or more. I try to forget about it and, for now, it always goes away.

I've heard of the Zwicker tone phenomen, where you play white noise lacking a frequency and after stopping, the brain "creates" the tone that was lacking, but this is not the same, as is a single frequency that keeps "playing" in my ear, and also this last more time than a Zwicker tone.

I'm very scared of matching my T , getting more hearing tests, or being in enviroments with electronic noises, in fear it creates new permanent tones in my ear. And I need to match it if I want to try sound therapies as notched white noise.

Does this happen often to people with T and some hearing loss (as it seems I have)? How is this called? Any chance that my brain "copies" a tone and it becames permanent?

Don't think or worry too much, as with every uncontrolled brain activities, there are strange phenomenons happening.

some people on mushrooms will have a nice trip while others will have a bad trip.

either way, nothing you can do about it for the moment...

If it's really bothering you I would see an audiologist who is experienced with t. But as far as the brain copying a tone this seems highly unlikely to me. I know I would hear a noise and always assume it did something to my t and that anxiety did make it worse. My concentrating and tuning into it more and more I would hear it louder and clearer. I'm mostly habituated now even if I have a spike it doesn't bother me much . Good luck man.

It's not anxiey, it has happened reliably with everytime I've been exposed to pure tones in certain frequencies, even if I'm relaxed and not worrying. It happens when I try to match my T, or when I used a hearing test app some days ago. There was frequencies that stucked for seconds or minutes and other frequencies did not, so it seems to be an audiological mechanism to it, and logically I'd like to know what's that and how it works.

Thats strange , it seems to die down you said? I think trying to find someone who is very experienced with t might be your best bet.

Yep, till now it has always died down, in the worst case sometimes it has stucked for hours after being exposed to a tone for longer periods (as when doing ultrasonic teeth cleaning, even with plugs), but sleep seems to reset it too.

Logically I'm searchig for the answer to know if longer exposures (as in electronical noise from computers and other things) are safe or not, and also to know wheter I can do sound therapies at all.

This happens to me very often. My brain copy external sounds and play it over and over again. Like car alarms, or monotnous sounds. Sometimes, it is quite annoying. It seems so real that every time it happens, i doubt if the sounds is real or no. So i tap my fingers and notice that it is not inside my head. Pretty strange phenomenon. In my case, my psych says that it is related to anxiety and ossessions issues.
Are you feeling better?
It may last for days in mi case, like if another T has popped in.

I know I am starting to get afraid of sounds - like maybe they will become stuck or that a certain sound will cause damage. I was starting to get anxious about buzzing because I thought I heard it twice but didn't see anything. And outside now there is lots of buzzing from insects to lawnmowers even motorcycles in the distance. I've just tried to relax about it all.

It may be something worth getting checked out for sure but it may be like how people get a weird feeling after a bug has touched them. No bug is there but the nerve impulse is still being sent.

Yessss this happens to me too and I cannot tell if it's something I am hearing inside my head or an actual sound I'm hearing. It so hard to tell sometimes. Like right now I hear a sound that I'm pretty sure is real but my boyfriend can't hear it. But then when I leave the room into another, I don't hear it! So is it that I just am hearing an actual sound and it's just super loud to me and too quiet for him to hear? Drives me crazy. I think I can pick up tones and sounds that are louder than it is to someone who doesn't have T. Maybe?

It's most likely palinacousis -- the closest thing, anyway. I had it too with sirens and microwave beeps, but it has gone for now.

I don't think it's merely a product of anxiety. It's part of a whole range of ear (or brain) problems.

My first year with TT, i had that daily with high pitch tones, but it gradually went away. As previous members have mention in this thread. Get in touch with your audiologist and see with they can give some input.
