Firecrackers, Fireworks & Tinnitus

@Jassiel I've had hissing and ringing that I can hear over everything since the 4th too. Also from fireworks. But they were three of the huge, loud M80s that one of my neighbors fired off. So close I smelled the smoke. I had no warning.

I had two of these go off about 400 to 600 feet away from my apartment. No warning. The sound decibel said 80 dB inside my place but the whole apartment shook and rumbled. Soooo???

I recently moved from my apartment. Fireworks are still going off till this day.

@Jaysterk So if I was close enough to hear the first pop, smell the smoke and see the smoke I am trying to figure out how close I was to them and what the decibel level was. Wish I had gone to the car after 1, but they did three within a minute of each other. I finally went to the car after that. My husband was about 50 feet further away from it than I was and was unaffected. I am trying to figure out how I sustained permanent damage from such a freak incident. It makes me so mad. Don't even know who set them off. My ear has been hissing/sizzling and ringing ever since and I can hear it over everything.

And you had never heard tinnitus in your ear before??

The ENT would not give me any prednisone. Has anyone done hyperbaric oxygen treatment within a few days/weeks of noise trauma for tinnitus?

@Jaysterk No, never. I've had it in my right ear for 15 year but very maskable. That was from an ototoxic drug. My left ear never rang so it's very upsetting. I keep hoping it fades away. Is yours maskable or can you hear it all day? Mine is a high pitched hiss I can hear over everything. Also a ringing sound and a Morse code sound.

Did they mention TRT? (tinnitus retraining therapy)

No the ENT did not mention TRT. The ones I have seen just said to give it a few months to heal. But there is a possibility that it will be permanent. Initially it was about a 5 on a scale of 1-10. Now it's about a 2. At night is when it's about a 3.

Not going to lie. When spikes happen make an emergency ENT appointment but also I'd just head straight to ER each time and say you have sudden ringing and fullness in your ear with possible hearing loss and tell them about prednisone reversal (They might not know) and that it needs to be given within 72 hours.

Prednisone can definitely alter tinnitus. There is usually an increase in tinnitus when starting to use prednisone, but it normally subsides afterwards.

I was watching YouTube/generally chilling earlier and suddenly there was a really loud booming, much louder than fireworks are generally. It only lasted for a second or so but it seems like they had an accident managed to blow up all of their fireworks at once because it was so loud and there was nothing set off after.

They were 2 doors down from me but I have no idea how loud it would be. I'm in the UK at the moment, where I'm pretty sure fireworks are limited to 120 dB, but I'm not sure how many exploded at once. I had my windows closed and I was facing away from the window but I could almost physically feel it.

Could it possibly have been damaging?

Sounds like an M80 type. I am more than certain you did not receive damage from this.

There are fireworks everywhere in my neighborhood - behind closed doors and windows, my SPL meter (Class 2, properly calibrated) shows noise levels of about 80-90 dBC. Which means that if I were outside, the SPL level would be around 105-120 dBC... Definitely not something that I would want to do!

I went into closets last night and tonight when the fireworks started. It's after 12:00 midnight and they are still going off. I was standing by a window last night when two went off behind my house. I've had ringing all day.
