Hello, I've been a frequent browser of the site for almost a month. I got my T after using my headphones and putting my music just a little too loud :/ It happened very suddenly and now i have hearing loss in my left ear with a mild T.
The first week was hell, didn't sleep and riddled with anxiety. It's the idea of permanance that gets to me and ignites something in my thats just awful.
I've seen an ent and auidologist but like most of you it really wasn't any help.
The success stories on here are what really help me. I know i'm in my early stages but i really just want to be able to be like I used to before this.
I start seeing a therapist at the end of the month, i've haven't seen one in over 10 years. My name is Adrian. I'm 22 and I have tinnitus...But I won't let it control my life. Thank you for reading :)

Hello Adrian!

Welcome to the club. This could go away, or not. Either way you will be fine with time.

I need to ask you some questions.

1. Did your tinnitus occur right after listenting to loud music?
2. Can you manipulate your tinnitus with jaw/facial movements?
3. Is your tinnitus only present in left ear?
4. How does your tinnitus sound like? (ringing, hissing etc.)
5. Is it louder or quiter in volum after waking up? Or no change at all?

Thank you.

Question for you guys - what's the significance of being able to manipulate pitch and / or intensity of the tinnitus with facial or jaw movements? What does that suggest about the tinnitus?

I sense a very subtle boost in both pitch and intensity in my tinnitus (both ears) whilst clenching the jaw.

That may mean that your T is somatic in nature, and that if by clenching the jaw you can change the T so much, then TMJ may be an issue. But it is best to be confirmed by the doctor that you do have TMJ issue.

I'm a newbie here. Can you explain or direct me to an area to learn what you mean by "somatic in nature" and TMJ?

My Tinnitus started when I was 7 years old, I'm now 45. It started when I was bounced off a trampoline and my jaw slammed down on one of the metal support bars. I can increase the pitch of Tinnitus by clenching my jaw and I've never understood why.

Thank you.
