I'm in need of a bit of support. Three months ago I woke up with ringing in both ears - completely out of the blue. (I do not listen to loud music, and am protective of my hearing.)

After two weeks of waiting, I visited a doctor. He spent no time with me, only saying I had flyid trapped behind my eardrum. He gave me a cortizone shot and sent me on my merry way.

Fast forward two months and my tinnitus and ear pain persists, with no change whatsoever. So O visited a second doctor who explained to me that I had fluid trapped behind both eardrums, and also that I had sevete allergies, which likely caused the buildup.

She perscribed me two separate allergy pillsand a nasal spray. She also said, yes! The tinnitus would go away but it will take time for the fluid to reabsorb.

That was one month ago. I am still not noticing any improvement and I am worried sick that this is permanant. I've read so many horror stories of ear tubes, glue ear, ETD, TMJ, you name it. I'm a healthy, young woman - I've never had allergies before...

So far I've lost 15lbs, become completely disinterested in my favorite hobbies and have the hardest time getting to sleep.

Has anyone had this before? Does it ever go away? Any encouragement is appreciated.

I actually cant take sudafed - it's too strong for me. I havent tried to breathe steam, but it sounds like it could help.

What dosage Sudafed were you taking? I used to take Clartin-D and that comes with 240mg of Pseudoephedrine... aka Sudafed. That was too much for me... made my breathing all weird and felt jittery.

I instead bought loratadine (claritin) and the pseudoephedrine (sudafed) on the side at 120mg. It's a 12-hour dose they say but it does the trick for me. They go down as low as 30mg too I believe.

As for steaming, that definitely can't hurt. I find it easier to do in the shower. Turn up the water super hot but don't stand in it and breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. You may need a towel over your head to direct the steam if your room is drafty. Give it 10 or 15 minutes each time and your fluid should come out eventually.

Hi, after an long ear infection in May I now I have glue ear and eustacian tube dysfunction and T. The ENT specialist confirmed the glue ear. The doc confirmed the eustacian tube is inflamed. I was put on steroid nasal spray but it made T worse and I caught a nasty cold. I stopped all meds and a week later tried Sinuxin, which is a natural plant solution. Sinuxin opened up my tubes and I could pop my ear at last.

Since then I have been to a homeopathic doc who is rebuilding my immune system and gave me something for the anxiety.

I still have T. ALL the docs are saying it's not serious and I have to give it time. I am due to have allergy tests in November 2015.

I have T in my rt. ear actually in my head now. But awhile ago I then got fluid in behind the left ear drum and a new ring on that left side because of this. I saw my ENT and he immediately put me on Prednisone. I was on that for bout 10 days. It all cleared up and that extra ring went away. He also had me taking Mucinnex D everyday.
