Quite a strange title. However, that is what I'm doing, forcing myself to get better. I mentioned a while back my Hyperacusis has made significant progress, but the problem is, its not gone. I won't settle for anything less than it to be gone. I'm returning to high school in a few months and I face new challenges to my Hyperacusis but I am trying to do everything in my power to combat them.

Currently, I am having myself turn the music I listen to up a little louder, slowly as my tolerance builds up. However, as we all know noise can put us right back where we started and that is what I'm also trying to avoid.

I don't get as bad of spikes when wearing earplugs anymore. And I've switched from foam earplugs to musicians earplugs when in restaurants. And hopefully at one point I'll be able to not have to wear them near as much.

Hopefully outer hair cells being regenerated could help with painful hyperacusis in the future. Rebuilding sound tolerance does help painful Hyperacusis to a good extent it seems. Wish you the best of luck!

Something that numbs the pain or regenerates OHC's in the future could hopefully put this completely behind you.

Thank you for the article, I have had a long running fight with this and by no means am I like I was months ago. However, it is still a struggle in many ways. I would I try to make the best of it. And it doesn't weigh heavy on my emotions anymore so its very tolerable, but it does hold me back in many ways. Thanks again. <3

Hi @Taylorslay

I admire your tenacity and determination in wanting your tinnitus and hyperacusis to improve as much as possible. I have mentioned many times that you have made significant improvement in the nine months that you have had these conditions - and there I think is the problem. I don't think you realize how far you have come and are expecting too much of yourself. You are still in the early stages of tinnitus and hyperacusis, which often take up to 18 months sometimes longer for a full recovery and habituation to happen. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself as you risk undoing some of the progress that you have gained by introducing stress and anxiety.

Try to relax and take things easy. The habituation process is something that cannot be rushed. Try to divert your attention to other things. The improvement that you seek with your tinnitus and hyperacusis will happen when you let go and stop focusing on them...

Take care
Michael

You have a good attitude and I took the same approach with my hyperacusis. Took a couple years but I made a full recovery from severe, life debilitating hyperacusis. My approach was systematic desensitization as you yourself have described.

Peep my success thread if you want any more information: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/thread...om-my-hyperacusis-and-chronic-ear-pain.14404/

Be sure to protect yourself from dangerously loud noises, even being fully cured you can still take damage from less loud sounds than healthy person.

Swimmers ear putty is helping agreat deal and distracting myself as well
I agree with you guys

Wondering if the musicians ear plugswouldwork at times definitely willing to try them

I love gardening bc it so therapeutic all around
It has helped me to deal with the struggle and is an excellent coping skill to manage the symptoms of tinnitus
I just have to get used to pronouncing it correctly. Lol

Hi @Taylorslay

You're post really resonated with me, as I am in a similar situation whereby my hyperacusis has improved a lot over the last year, but I still have not been able to give it that final 'push' to be able to leave it all behind me. I admire your tenacity to improve and I feel the same about my own condition, but as @Michael Leigh correctly points out it is generally a slow process of months/years that should not be rushed. Slow and steady wins the race, I suppose :)
